This fuel injection/air induction cleaning service was pitched to my pop when he brought his car in for service. Just under $200. He turned it down, but I was wondering if anyone can provide the real scoop this latest dealer service pitch. Thanks.

I used to perform fuel injection cleaning when I worked at the dealer. Usually the cost is under $100 and well worth it for preventative maintainence. The fuel system is by passed and some very stong injector cleaner is ran thru the engine. This is really recommended if the car is getting poor fuel economy or is running rough.

NATESS, I'm so bitter and tired towards dealer pitches that I usually ignore them. I always check with people on the boards re: the validity of some of their services before taking the plunge. 2002Z4CSS -- Thanks, glad to read it is beneficial, but they were pitching it on my dad's car that is less than 1 year old, but has 15k. Good to know that it might be worthy if car isn't running right or gets up in mileage...which doesn't look like it will be too far off.

sorry about being so bitter, but i have had it up to here with dealers. 90% of the time a bad experience for me.

Yeah, what he said. Its around $100.00 usually, and I recommend it about every 50k miles or so. It removes the carbon from the injectors, intake ports, valves, pistons, and combustion chambers. It really works great.
The carbon acts kind of like a sponge, and soaks up the fuel otherwise, and then you get a lean misfire at low speed and idle, hesitation, poor gas mileage, etc.
But $200.00 seems a bit high. Our is $110.00
BTW, what does the BG stand for?? never heard of that.

NateSS, I think your view is very understandable. I always feel like I'm being pitched at a dealership. But hey, they have to make a living too. Steve, glad to see the benefits. Don't know why they pitched it for a car with 15k that was running fine. Guess a little preventive medicine and fatter pockets. I'll look for a shop to do it when the SS hits 50k...maybe it'll benefit from the Iroc. As for BG, that's the name of the company that provides the dealer with cleaning products/system/pamphlet (www.bgprod.com).

I have an independent mechanic friend that promotes the use of the BG-44K every other oil change.
