.........apparently shared by Motor Trend Magazine.

This is what they said about the styling of the GTO in their Car of the Year testing:

"And the GTO is almost too plain. It looks too much like a pumped-up Cavalier."

They also said "Yes, it is the fastest, most appealing GM muscle coupe in memory..."

chief, Motor Trend and MMMM_ERT think alike.

I read the Car and Driver review of it....pretty
much the same thing; Dull looks, plenty of
power...but the biggie and no big
surprise....."QUESTIONABLE BUILD QUALITY".

Well, Motor Trend disagrees with Car and Driver

Surprise #4: Fit and finish are the finest we've seen on a GM vehicle in decades. The body emits not a squeak and shimmies not a whit, parts gaps are tight and uniform (even on our preproduction pilot vehicle), the interior shapes flow smoothly into one another, and the materials are rich and handsome. Superb, beautifully stitched leather covers the wheel, the shift boot, and the seats. The seats themselves are simply spectacular, deeply bolstered for excellent support, and roomy enough to be accommodating for drivers of various sizes

With the GTO it is not the build quality or the performance of the car that most people have trouble with............

IT'S THE STYLING.........

Too many people have had negative comments about the styling......very few people have said they LOVE the styling. I am sure GM will have no problem seling every one they import.......but my feelings on the styling are a lot closer to MOTOR TRENDS than I would like them to be. I want the GTO to suceed so I hope GM can correct this VERY MAJOR SHORTCOMMING that so many people feel the car has in the styling arena.

Build quality will probably not be an issue, this is an Aussie car and they appear to have their act together down there.

They have a HUGE and BARREN landscape there and no one wants to buy an IFFY quality car and get stranded in the desert.

Their highways are not as user friendly as the US system and the "LAST GAS for 400 Miles" signs are not in cartoons.

The US and Canada seem to be [excluding third world]the last place to wake up to build quality and have the clients that are less demanding !!!

Ditto, here. I think the aussie's have always done a good job of building cars (and designing them, too).

I was actualy kind of surprised to find out that the holden monaro, currently used as the GTO, has been in production since the late 1960's, just like the Fcar!!!

In face, for those of you who like Mad Max, remember the Night-Rider, who steals a "pursuit special" car? Thats a holden monaro from THAT era.

However, this new model does sort of remind me of the original goats... more of a family sedan with a big motor kind of deal. For nostalgia, I guess thats ok, but I prefer a sportier look. But thats why all of us bought Fcars.
