well it is finally time to get new tires. this is what i have so far, with the best price that i could find:
BF-Goodrich KDW $179.00 at the Tire rack. Kumho Ecsta MX $148.00 at the Tire rack. Nitto NT-555 $169.99 at Tbyrne.com
i am looking for an excellent dry and wet tire. mostly for daily driving, but the occasional track day and drag day. price is an issue, these prices are good, but if i can get them cheeper, then great.
so if anyone has had experience with any of these tires, please let me know what you think of them.
I went to KDW 285/40 this spring. Best move I could have made. Sticks like glue during very aggressive cornering and puts the HP to the ground much better than the Eagles. If your lowered, you have to check the fronts at full stop inside. Mine is o.k. with SLP springs.

Nate, I had just put KDW's on my 2000 before I crashed it. I loved them!
However, if you want to save some money, I'll sell you the almost new Goodyear Eagle F1's off my Cobra. They have 2700 miles on them. Send me an email: ryant@microsoft.com.
Obviously I don't have an SS Camaro anymore, but I'm going to stick around this message board unless you all kick me out.

thanks for the feedback. i think i will go with the KDW's. Costco sells them for $179.99. only .99 more than at the Tire rack. plus Costco includes S&H, installation and disposal of old tires in that price.

Hey Nate, I would also get the Firehawk SZ50EP's. I have them on my SS and handle awesome in the wet as well as the dry. You'll only lose a ltitle traction when it gets cold out. They are pretty cheap and IMO, the best bang for the buck!

Nathan, please assure us you haven't been running on your space saver spare since your recent flat tire. Were you able to get it patched in the interim?
Did you ever get a response from Bob about those F1's he had?

Yes, unfortunately i have had to run on my doughnut spare since the flat. Les Schwab would not repair the flat because it was too worn. i did get a hold of Bob, and i am picking them up tomorrow. but he only had two, not a full set of four. so i will just throw these on the front until i can get the KDW's.

Oh, my....those are not intended to be driven on that long. I hope you're able to get those other tires on before anything happens. I assume after you get those tires from Bob, you're going straight to Costco or Les Schwab to have them mounted?

TireRack has them for $176. (I only looked on their site for a quick price check, no where else.)
SZ50 EPs - all the way! Outside of the fantastic wet traction, these tires catre completely at home during a lapping day on a road course or autoX event. They do not get slippery or squirrelly as they get heated up. Oh yeah - and I can cut sub-2.00 60' times at the strip with them on my 6MN. I will be buying my 3rd set of these tires in the spring.

I also put the FF SZ50 EPs on (285 width) all the way around and LOVE them.

Well, I've got just under 23k on the clock and its about time to replace those stock Goodyears. Over all I was not very happy with the performance of the stock tires. They made a lot of noise, especially as they wore down, wet tracktion was poor, and the cornering grip was sporadic. My last car (1993 Mustang Cobra) had Goodyear Gatorbacks on it, and I felt the same way about those, even though I put three sets on that car I eventually went with Yokohama tires that I loved. I was looking into the Yoko avs100 too since they are so cheap. Kind of interested in the Kumho 712 but I have my doubts-alot of mixed reviews.
I don't know how much that survey list is worth. Based on the general public's opinion. What's loud or wears fast to one person might not be to another. I know the BFG KD is the baddest thing going and isn't on the list. Too bad the roads in PA are crap and a super sticky tire like that turns out to be a PITA- I ended up selling mine.
I got the KDWS(not KDW's) and won't get 10K out of them and I baby my ride. Waste of money which is why I think I'm going cheap this time.

I also had a set of SZ50 and loved them. I would have put them on the last time but it was a 3 month backorder for 315's, so I got Michelin Pilot Sports. They are the best tires that I've ever had but they were pricey. Once they're shot I'll probably go back to the Firestones.

I running the KDW's now on the vert, and have had no problems or wear issues with them, they are the cat's meow....so i just bought KD's for the new rims i got for xmas...the G-Force is a great tire in my book.

I have the BFG G-force KD's. I know they are pricey but I have had no problems driving them in rain and there are good for both drag racing and autoXing. Right now I have just over 27000 miles on this set and I am sure they will last next summer as well...
