The dealership at Munday Chevy in Houston has agreed to buy the car back. So I spent ALL DAY looking for an SS online, and have found one in Richardson (which is a suburb of Dallas, which isn't far).
It's a white 1999 SS (I checked the RPO at the Chevy house here in Rusk today), with 57,000 miles. They want $11,995 for it. What's wrong with it?
Let me know soon! I want to check on it, but I need advice first! It's not like I'm just wanting to blow $12,000, but I want to cover my bases first. Check it out at:

Check to see if there's anything such as damage, and also a clear title (not salvaged). The miles don't seem TOO bad for the year, and it appears to be the real deal, as long as you can verify it for sure.
White is a pretty rare color too, but regardless, go over the car with a fine toothed comb.

Call SLP with the Vin number and they can verify if it's an SS. That way you'll know for sure. A white SS always looks nice. Glad to see the dealer lived up to his error and gave you your money back. Sometimes someone has a conscience they have to live with.

I've already checked the VIN and it's a WU8. I know there's been warranty work done, but I'll have to check to see what exactly. I'm also planning on calling SLP. Would they tell me if they worked on the car after it came off the line?

As in worked on to fix something, probably not. SLP can tell you if there were any upgrade options to the car, however, but you'll have to ask them. You might want to use something like Carfax or some other method to verify whether the car has been in a recorded accident or not (be wary, Carfax isn't always accurate). I'm not sure if Texas government would disclose that information either. Anyway, if in doubt, take the car, if possible, to an independent garage and spend a few bucks to have them check out the car on a lift. Do research!!! Also, see if you can get the name of the previous owner and try and talk to them if possible. Use every means at your disposal to make sure you have a warm fuzzy when you sign the papers.

Car looks good and a good price. Check carfax for damage, have it checked by a mechanic, and then get it - white SSs are really nice and after all this work you deserve a great car like that! Posts: 3403 | From: Woodcliff Lake, NJ, USA | Registered: Dec 2000

All SS's went to SLP - don't know what you mean by "worked on the car after it came off the line?" The line was at SLP.

Nice....Artic White with Neutral Leather is sure a nice color combo and maybe a rare combo as well. That mileage is under average for a 5 year old car.Look it over real good for any paint overspray on any of the moldings too. Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002

Here is the information GM has on your vehicle. (Via GM Vehicle Inquiry System) It does, as you said, have the WU8 Option Code. Title is good, according to GM.

Information is cool....looks like the car was well optioned from GM, too.
Anyway, forgive my lack of detailed year-model knowledge, but for 99, wasn't Y2Y required for SLP to add any additional options? In other words, since I don't see Y2Y, then is it safe to assume that SLP didn't do any upgrades to this particular SS? Or was this the case of the switchover year where Y2Y wasn't necessarily required?

Thanks for all the information! I don't know if my wife will be up for purchasing ANOTHER car like this, but I'll keep y'all posted. She's very embarrassed by what Munday did and just wants the car that's in our garage gone. So, we'll see where it goes...

Well, I don't see the VIN in our member database.
It looks like the usual '99 TSB's were attended to and it appears they took care of their customer with courtesy transportation. I've heard of that dealer before. I think they're one of the big ones in the area.
Good luck if you decide to get the car. I don't think you'll regret a little extra legwork in researching it before the purchase. Once the other car is gone and a new one is in its place, the first not so pleasant purchase will fade away.

This car color combination rang a bell with me. I don't have the list, but I believe that this particular car was ordered along with 44 others just like it for one of the NASCAR races......I think it would have been too late (build date) for the Texas 500......but I can see that it was ordered by the South Central Region....the office is in Irving.....and it shows it was placed into company car service.
Also....Reliable Chevy is the second largest Camaro dealer nationwide in the 2001 and 2002 model years. I know the dealer personally and in fact he serves on the Camaro/Corvette Dealer Advisory Board. Good guy.
Good luck! none of the warranty issues is of major concern...moreover, most were done recently.
