Just bought a 98 SS with 80,000 miles. Previous owner ran Amsoil but I want to switch to Mobil 1. Question: 1) Should I continue with synthetic oil? 2) Do I need to flush the engine if I'm changing from Amsoil to something else?

Drain and change if you wish. I've yet to hear of an engine issue where someone changed synthetic brands by the drain and refill/new filter route.

I get this question quite often in my line of work and I will tell most of my customers that millions of used cars are sold in this country every year, the new owner has no clue in most cases what type of oil was run in the car previosly. So they chose "their" favorite brand and the car just keeps on going, In some cases oil consuption may decrease or possible increase in some cases but few if any ill affects happen.
