Morning all ............ finally back at work .......... hope you have a good one
The picture of the day ............. last week there was some discussion on the picture of John Mulligan and his untimely death at Indianapolis following a fire caused by a massive clutch failure. The question was asked if Don Garlits hadn't suffered through an explosion also ............... and the answer is most definitely, YES. It took place at Lions, in 1970. Not only did the clutch explode, but so did the "custom built" 2-speed transmission he had in the car. The explosions cut the car in half, and severed Garlits' right foot at the arch. While recovering from his injuries, he came up with the basic layout for the rear engined dragster that is still in use today

Old Coyote, I heard Don Garlits tell that story on Speed Vision not long ago. His wife was not too impressed that he was designing a new dragster in the hospital!
