The wife and I were talking the other day and I think we have decided to try and to the whole power tour. I was wondering if anyone else from here was planning on doing the whole thing. Maybe it would be a little cheaper on us (the people willing to) to try and double up in the rooms. That may help someone with being able to make the decision to do the tour. I have had friends who have done the whole tour and they had a blast. I think it would be cool to get a bunch of SSOA members to go on the tour together and do the F-body's proud. It starts in Arlington TX, and ends in Green Bay WI. Thats going to put alot of miles on the SS, but they will be miles I would never forget. (based on the stories from past long haulers)

Pardon this Firehawk driver for stepping onto your porch, but CyTruffle asked if I'd offer some insight here.
I did Power Tour in 2002, and I'm all registered and set for 2004. I did my room finding on Expedia.com, but there are plenty of other ways. The magazine hasn't posted their sponsoring hotels/motels yet, but you can always find less expensive ones fairly close to the activities.
I'm paying rates from $40 to $66.50, and I specifically located places as close to the stopping points as possible. In fact, I'm across the street in a couple of locations.
I learned my lesson in 2002 about showing up late on the first day, so I'm actually driving from Amarillo to Dallas on the 4th of June so that I can be at the Ballpark early on the first day to avoid the registration crowds and hassle finding a parking place.
Power Tour is actually a week of early morning starts (now usually from a Walmart parking lot) followed by a fairly reasonable drive (300 or so miles) where everyone puts on a car show and wanders around the display booths. Some type of food is served to the entrants in the evenings (courtesty of the day's sponsor), and it varies from hotdogs to barbeque. Sponsor booths also have giveaways during the event.
The number of cars daily varies from location to location as more locals get involved in some places than others. The long haulers go from start to finish and end up in a photo in the magazine and maybe an award, although mine never made it from 2002.
If you enjoy driving and seeing thousands of hot rod and performance cars, the HotRod Power Tour is a good experience. If you take advantage of the daily dinner offering, you can save some money on food. As for doubling up in rooms, I'm not into that, but I'm sure some of you with close friends could save money that way too. Just don't forget that you have to plan on the trips to the starting point and getting home from the ending point!
On the LS1Tech board there is already lots of talk about F-body caravans, especially for the first leg of the trip to Tulsa.
Hope this long post helps someone.

I'm certainly up for the first couple of days of it. A prior family commitment will limit my time to just 2 or 3 legs. (My in-laws are paying for us to go on an Alaskan cruise, so I guess I can't complain.)
Terri, what are the chances that we could get an SSOA banner since it's starting to sound like there's some interest this year.

We're scheduled to leave for Europe on June 2nd and be gone for 12 days, but that's not in stone yet. Hopefully, Missi and I will get to at least come down the night before and see y'all off. I'm going to HATE missing that! We could've taken the SS and my C-10...

I will be joining the tour on Wednesday, June 9th in Davenport, Iowa along with another friend of mine (99 LGND2R Z) and will do the last two days of the Power Tour.
We have heard it's a "hoot" but like a lot of other folks, we can't do the whole thing.

As an FYI, Gateway International is actually on the Illinois side of the river in Madison, IL. If I remember right, it's Exit 3 (?) on I-55 in Illinois. So if you are thinking of reserving a hotel in St. Louis, you may want to reconsider and think Collinsville, IL, or somewhere near there if you want to be closer to the track. Not that St. Louis is bad, just something to think about is all.
