American Specialty Cars, Inc. ASC is changing its name from American Sunroof Corp, since we don't do sunroofs anymore, but are becoming a niche market manufacturer for the OE's. Almost sounds like some other company I used to work for.
Here's the storyabout the Detroit Autoshow from Saturday's Detroit Freepress: From Sunday's first news conference, where ASC Inc. will announce that its initials no longer stand merely for American Sunroof Co., to the creation of a dedicated area at Cobo for souped-up tuner cars, there is a recurring theme to this year's Detroit show.
It's all about more choice, more chances for people to buy and customize vehicles to suit their own individual tastes.
"I don't want to drive what my neighbor is driving," says Paul Wilbur, president and chief executive officer of ASC Inc., the Southgate company founded and built by the late Heinz Prechter into the largest U.S. producer of automotive sunroofs. Wilbur and the management team assembled after Prechter's death in July 2001 are moving ASC beyond sunroofs as a builder of complete low-volume specialty vehicles. ASC recently played a big role in the design, engineering and launch of the Chevrolet SSR, General Motors Corp.'s flamboyant new convertible pickup truck.
In line with its new focus, Wilbur will announce Sunday that the initials ASC now stand for American Specialty Cars. Even the address of the company headquarters will change from 1 Sunroof Center to 1 ASC Center.
"There's a strong American desire to be an individual," Wilbur says, noting that the number of different vehicle nameplates is rising much faster each year than the number of vehicles sold in the United States. That means more niche, or specialty, vehicles built in lower volumes. Examples include the SSR and the Pontiac Solstice roadster, to debut this week.

How much will one of those puppies cost? If they're affordable, I'd like to buy one of those retirement thingies, too. Posts: 2359 | From: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada | Registered: Jul 2001

Jeffy, that is the best thing in the world to work on. I started that goal at 18. This month on the 18th will be retired for one year and just turned 48 couple months ago. Now I work on what I want and my families needs...
You can NEVER be too young to start planning on retirement. Just look at me. I'm a finance major, and started my 401(k) when I was 19. I"m still only 22, and onwards to a great retirement. I have 3 retirement plans so far as we speak!!
Not quite enough to retire yet though, hehe
