--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

first..dont think im bad mouthing this tire..im not..i just want yall to know whats really behind it.

Yokohama has come out with a tire called "ADVID". H4 and V4. its designed to be marketed to those with "slim checkbooks" ..where power and style often collide with little money.... UTQG rating is 500 on treadwear (that means a ton of silicone and synthetic rubber......which means poor traction and hardning of the compound down the road).. its an all season tread design. its aimed at the sporty cars market..to include the f body. if you are a mild mannered clark kent driver......it might suit you.....but its not for die hard enthusiasts.....and the dealers will be pushing it......so dont be fooled.

just a heads up....... [Wink]

Well Ken, being a dealer, I don't try to "push" anything on anyone. I do try to recommend what is appropriate for my customer's needs and their budget. (Don't misunderstand, I really didn't take this personally even though it might appear I did [Big Grin] ).

Having said that, the Yokohama Avid H4 and V4 are excellent tires for the vehicles they are produced for. Would I put them on either of my Camaros? Absolutely not! But my ZL1 has Goodyear F1 SuperCar tires on it and the traction with them leaves something to be desired also and I just recently took the Comp T/A's off of my SS and replaced them with Dayton ZR's. The Dayton ZR's hook up much better than the B.F. Goodrich Comp T/A's ever did ! !

These tires (Avid H4's and V4's) are meant mainly for Toyota Camry's, Nissan Maxima's, Dodge Neon's, Honda Accord's, Pontiac Grand Am's & Grand Prix's, Ford Tauras SHO's, etc.

Yokohama does make tires suitable for your Camaro. Everyone has their own preference and opinion when it comes to tires just like cars (i.e., Ford vs. Chevy). While you may like B.F. Goodrich or Goodyear, someone else may like Firestone or Dunlop.

We sell ALOT of Yokohama product and they build a good tire and I agree that these particular tires would not be suitable on a high performance Camaro SS, but would be suitable on say a V-6 Camaro (ugh, did I say V-6?).

The shop that takes care of my sponsorship for FIRESTONE will NOT sell the AVONS to anyone that wants them for a Camaro/Mustang/Vette.

They explain to the client different options and why good tires melt,if the client still wants the AVONs they give him a list of OTHER tire shops and wish him luck.

They very rarely lose a client and show that they care which builds a strong bond with said client.

If you sell crappy tires for a musclecar you are not good dealer.

Time Lord......I agree. All we can do is advise and recommend.

Many times I have folks come in that want tires for their car and you guessed it, they want the cheapest tires we can sell them. Then we go out and look at their car and they have a foreign car (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, BMW, Lexus, etc.) and find out they have a speed rated tire (H/U/V/W/Z) and they want us to replace it with a S or T rated tire because it is cheaper. In retail, you have to remember, the customer is always right (even when their wrong). We will put a S or T rated tire on their car but we also put a disclaimer on the invoice stating that the customer was advised what the manufacturer recommended for their car and it was their decision to replace it with something else.

All I can do as a retailer is recommend what I think is correct and the products I believe in. But again, everyone has their own opinions and budget.

Yeah......what we try to impress on people is, the only thing between them and the road are the tires they are riding on. Are tires important? You bet they are. They are the most important thing in my "opinon". But as you mentioned, there are certainly other important things as well (i.e., brakes, suspension, etc.). That is always what amazes us when people come in and want cheap tires.

Also, another thing we see regularly is this. A guy walks in and wants tires for his 4X4 truck. He wants good, expensive tires for his truck. But his wife or kids car needs tires, do you have any used tires for sale? If not, what is the cheapest thing you have? [Roll Eyes]

People.........go figure.
