Wow! [Eek!]

I start my new online course at the University of Phoenix today with a new instructor as always. Anyway, she's sort of famous in the Indy circuit and in road racing in general. Her name is Arlene Hiss. She has previously worked in a management role with GM at AC/Delco for 15 years. She sounds like she could be a lot of fun with her upbeat humor and car enthusiast background. (Dr. Hiss also owns and operates a recording studio!)

Maybe I'll get Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins next!?! [Big Grin]

This is an excerpt from her bio:

quote:
During the same time that I was teaching, I was also a racecar driver. Starting out in 1962 in SCCA Sports Car Club Racing, I actively pursued road racing for the next 13 years. Then, in 1976, I was the first woman to race an Indianapolis car in the Phoenix 150. From there I went on to become the first woman to race a late model stock car in the Texas 500. Because of my racing background, I was asked to teach an auto shop class in the high school. Needless to say, I was the first and to my knowledge, only woman ever to teach auto shop in the high school system (along with the dance classes). My ex-husband was also an Indy car driver. He spent four years on the Indy car circuit, was the Indianapolis rookie of the year in 1972, and raced for Roger Penske in '72 and '73. For you racing enthusiasts, his name is Mike Hiss.

[Cool]
My neighbor used to write for various racing magazines and followed racing events around the same time, ...would be funny if she knew of your instructor... (I'll have to ask)
