To sell the SS...well that is, for good. Been to expensive to keep, and if I ever want to move out before i reach 30, (haha, i know, i'm 22 now) I need to sell it and get a cheaper car. Going over Tuesday to look at 2004 cavaliers. I will defintiely miss my SS for sure. But also be peace at mind, knowing i have a brand new vehicle with warranty...and maintanence will be soo much cheaper!
Spent a long time today cleaning up the SS with all the Salt on it. I dunno if that would help the dealer get a better value for it or what. Any help in what the dealers will look for to maybe clean and such, unless its out of my reach. I'm hoping a deal will go through. I"ll keep you all posted. In the meantime, here's some pics I just took during my cleaning process!

I know how you feel.I bought a 1997 30th Anniversary Z28 for my son when he was 19 and he made the payments. His 1979 Berlinetta was sitting for 3 years because he did not have any extra cash, plus he bought the 1994 S-10 SS. Too many vehicles to gas and insure.I sold the 30th Anniversary last April.

Been there done that. Then ran money problems and had to move back to my parents home. Got my act together, got another SS and paid it off. Now I am saving for a house, I hope to start looking around this time next year.

Well, right now, I cant even sell my SS for 18k by myself, and if I do sell it myself, i want at least that. I konw I can get at least 16k for the SS at one of the dealers i've been to. The dealer I'm going to on tuesday is much larger and shoudl give me more than that. Was thinking of putting it on ebay, but i know i wont get 18k on there at this time of year. Trust me, if i'm really gonna get ripped off, i wont sell it.
Oh, and trust me..my car cleans up pretty well!! here's a pic after last winter, and after i went over it with a toothbrush:

I know what you mean...unfortunately. I am also debating selling my SS as insurance is killing me right now. A beater might help my cause, but my Iroc has been sitting for 2 years. Good luck! Get your finances straight and then you'll be able to buy one back. I hope you get a fair price... Mark

Dan, I know you've debated this before and hate to lose the SS. If it must go, ...so be it. Sometimes you need to step back in order to move ahead. Best of luck in whatever you decide...

I'm sure it will be a 5th gen as well! Drove the SS to work today, so now its a weee bit dirty again At least it looks a lot 'cleaner' than it was.

You will hear a bunch of us say "NO! Figure out a way to keep it!" but you are doing the right thing. You can always find another car. Your priorities are in order.
Good luck.
And it's not so bad driving a Cavalier around - just think, some people will think you have a GTO!

Dan, Sorry you have to sell it. it is true that you will most likely get raked over the coals if you go through a dealer. but i know that you have been having trouble selling it. well, what ever you do, good luck with it. and don't stop posting here. hate to lose you as well as your car.

Just a heads up about trade in value. It all depends on what vehicle you are buying. They base it not only off KBB but also the amount of profit in the vehicle you are purchasing. The more profit in the vehicle you purchase the higher amount they have the ability to give you for your trade. The tough thing is that sports car values unfortunately go down in the winter. Best of Luck...
Personally I would skip the Cavalier and get the Cobalt. The Cobalt is not only replacing the Cavalier but will have an SS version that is a 2.0L supercharged. I think you would enjoy that more than a Cavalier.

Yeah, wish I could wait for the cobalt. kinda an awkward time, but the deals on the 04 cavaliers are great! I can get pretty much invoice price on a fully loaded Cavalier LS coupe right now.
No worries, I'll still post on here, casue you guys are great! I've already signed up over at j-body.org..but just not the same (young 'tuner' crowd)

Looks like the deal with go through. Just dont know the EXACT cavalier. They dind't have one exactly have it. So I HOPE he can look around aat other dealers and see if he can get one. About $5000 off on rebates on a fully loaded LS Sport Coupe! And I'll be cutting my car payements (and almost my insurance as well) in half.
What I want to get: 2004 Black LS Sport Coupe Manual Upgraded Stereo w/ MP3 player Sunroof XM Radio (optional)
Gonna call on Monday and see if the dealer will find one. (They sell about 50 cavaliers a month!)

Congratulations Dan. You'll miss the SS, but it is the right move to make now. That means you'll be able to buy a stable of SS's in the future! By the way, I'm curious, how much are you getting on the trade in? Thanks. Mark

Yeah, defintiely AT LEAST one 5th gen in the future. I'll be able to save away when 2007 comes along!
Getting $16600 right now for the trade-in. Seeing that I cant even sell it for $18k, $1400 is not much of a difference in my view. (cant complain about them giving me $5000 off of a $18.5 car too)
