Voting takes too long (especially given the number of people who attend) and not everyone is going to get what they want so why bother?
Not to be rude... just looking at it realistically.
Good point Chabby, like in all group events, not everyone is going to be happy, just make do! Hope to see some familiar faces in October!

Sorry for taking so long guys to chime in. THe dates I picked I wanted to make sure they didn;t interfere with too many other activities.
If the dates have to be adjusted then I need to know now. But I can't make everyone happy on this, thats the bad thing. I couldn't do it memorial day (the Fbod Gathering) couldn't do it the weekend of Mothers Day. (thats a HUGE No no.) I could make in in June for the first one. Or if the majority would like, just make it a fall thing every year???
I will have to sign up on a couple of boards. I know there is going to be some confusion at first, but hang in there with me.
As for the Hampton Inn? You can ax that right now. The Hotels of choice will be in Front Royal where the Start of the Skyline Drive begins. I don't like the out of towners having to drive all the back roads then getting lost. (of course with GPS stuff its kinda hard, but its still frustrating).
If the general consensus is to have just a Fall Skyline, let me hear of a few dates.

I forgot to mention this. Yes for the people driving down for the event, by all means come a day early. I will be scoping out the hotels, I will probably stay at the one of the hotels prior to everyone getting there to make sure its acceptable.

I definitely like the idea of spring and fall Skylines. definitely one in the spring because some people have just been getting their cars out for a short time after the horrid winter they have just had and need to get away for a bit And plus having two will be a good idea in case someone cant make one they may be able to make the other.. noone misses out Posts: 272 | From: Woodstock, Georgia | Registered: Aug 2003

June surely sounds like a better time for all. It will be easier for me to get off work as well, b/c I'm going to Orlando for a while in May.

If we're getting to vote for a week end for the spring Skyline, then any week end but the one that has been pick. The 15th, 16th of May is the only week end in May or June that I have something that I have to be at.

Without a scientific poll - I'm just about as "out of town" as you can get. The ride from The Hampton and back, was one of the highlights.
They have always accommodated us, clean rooms, free breakfast, plenty of parking - and it's bit secluded - i.e. safer for our cars. We only have to make certain that throughout the "chain" they have radios, and someone at the end who knows the route.
I'm sure Ken could run off some photo copies of the route that could be distributed as well.
My $0.02 - don't be too quick to AX the Hampton.

Hawkeye, I can pretty much say with 100% certainty that the Hampton Inn down in Aquia VA is out. There IS a Hampton Inn in Front Royal.
Trust me, is easier on people when they KNOW how to get "home" from where ever they are.
I have been there and done that too many times. I like "KNOWING" how to get where I am going and getting back again.
Don't take this as a personal attack. Its not. You should know me well enough that I am doing this in the interest of the participants. Heck if I REALLY wanted to I could make the freaking hotel in Germantown MD. (Hey!!! Thats where I live! How convienent! Hotel is right there, resturants close by, gas stations etc..the..ahem Mall) But I think it will just be more fun when the participants are right there at the drive.

Not taking it as an attack at all, just an exchange of ideas. Hell, we drive about 9 hours to get there, so you know we like driving.
I remember my first Skyline, The Hampton was not Ken's first choice, but the other hotel was booked, and The Hampton came to the rescue.
I respected that, and I think Ken did as well, so we stayed there. That doesn't mean I won't accept change, just expressing my opinion.
Chris, I'll cruise the backroads with anyone else who wants to go. The cruise at BG was a blast (just as RagSS!)
Hope to see you all there.

I also travel a distance and have attended the last 2 events and I dont mind some change, but I felt the hotel worked great and had a sense of security for the cars.
I will be keeping up on the posts to see how it progresses and I would like to make another Skyline event, Also hope Ken/Mary still are planning to attend (as well as others of coarse) Al

That is one reason why Doug himself is going to be going to the hotels, to make sure they seem secure and will work for all of us and our Cars I'm sure though that we'll have a great time no matter where we stay .. it's the people that make Skyline great Posts: 272 | From: Woodstock, Georgia | Registered: Aug 2003
