Being way to cold to hand wash my car, what is a "reasonable" length of time you would allow road salt to sit on your SS [Frown]

Even though I don't drive mine in the winter I wouldn't let it sit long especially if it has aluminum rims as the salt could start to eat away at them.

I would get it off asap but that is just me. [Big Grin]

What he said and if nothing else go to a wand car was and rinse it good all over or do like I am this morning. I have a guy in town that hand washes and details cars in a heated shop at his house does a great job and is carefull not to scratch the car and does it for $25.00 and with it 17 degrees here this morning I guess he will get to wash mine.

You have zaino underneath that salt? That should help protect it! Now the underside of the car, take a power washer to is and wash it off, then take it on the highway quick. Might freeze, but it will get most of it off underneath. With lots of zaino on my, when I wiped it clean, looked just as good as it did in the summer!

I pulled my SS in the garage, filled a bucket of hot water and used a wash cloth to get all the salt off. Took a while but it helped. [Smile]

We have had way below normal temps here and very salty cars.I bit the bullet and ran then thru the drive thru car wash. It is even too cold to wash the cars at the quarter wash. The water freezes instantly. In the spring I will do my magic with my buffing wheel and get rid of any car wash scratches. [Smile]

If it's bitterly cold and doesn't really even approach the freezing mark, the salt does not 'activate' and will not corrode the car.

It's those days in early March when everything is melting, the temps are getting warm, and there is still salt all over the place when you really have to worry about corrosion.

This is it. I hose down my truck (Camaro's wrapped up all cosy inside for the winter) every time it gets within a few degrees of thawing, to rinse off/dilute the salt, and wash it whenever it's above freezing. If it's covered in frozen slush, or dried salt it's not going to come to harm until it starts to melt.
