I don't know if this has been addressed before here, but I had a request this morning from a buddy of mine who owns a '97 SS to see if I had the Y2Y code on the GM door sticker of my '98. To my surprise, the Y2Y designation does not appear on either the GM or the SLP door sticker of my car, even though I have a number of SLP-added options.
I understand that '98 was the first year that SSs were built "in-house" and that the car had some SS-specific equipment installed at the plant in Ste. Therese (thus receiving the WU8 code). The 96-97 SSs arrived at SLP as completed Z28 models and ALL SS equipment was added at the SLP facility for those model years. Was the Y2Y code applicable in '96-97? There is no mention of it in the Camaro White Book. I will have to check when I get home today, but I suspect the Y2Y designation does appear on the documentation provided in GM's "Heritage Package" that I received shortly after Iought the car. Does anyone have further info on why the Y2Y designation does not appear on the stickers?

Best regardSS,

Elie

There was a different RPO code in 96 and 97.You are correct, the Y2Y did not start until 98. [Smile]

This was discussed at lenth on another board. If I recall correctly all SS's have the WU8 code. 98 and newer may have the Y2Y depending on options.

WU8 is a code that first was used in '98. I think the '96-97 SSs had a different code.

I can't recall each one, but a search will bring up several past threads on this subject.
