Everybody who complains and b***hes about how bad their F-Body creaks and rattles, and how poorly they are made, let me suggest this: Park the car for four months, cover it in the garage and walk away. Go drive the beater, hell go rent a car. After the four months are up uncover the car, walk around it. By just looking at it again do you start to remimber why you scrimped and slaved to find that car? Now start her up. Did you miss that rumble? Now take her out for a drive, no not a tire smoking hell-bent-for-leather thrash session but let it run up thru the gears. Watch the neighbors reactions who haven't seen the car in months. Now make a few hard launches (within the limits of the law). Are you starting to remimber?...I sure did. The Bird has been covered since mid October. Uncovered her today, charged the battery for a couple of hours. First twist of the key, she fired. No miss, no hesitation, just ready to go. To be honest I have contemplated selling the Bird the whole time she was covered. All I could remimber were the rattles, the rough ride ETC. ETC. You know I heard those rattles and the body groan as she rolls over our lousy streets. But they somehow were not near as annoying as driving the beater truck or our everyday driver.
By the way, regardless of the quality of service from a dealer or the age of the car, I can say with some conviction the the Bird will remain a part of my family.
Sorry for the long rant but it was the highlight of a long week to get to drive my Bird again, and in light of all the negative stuff I wanted to post some positive car thoughts.

Well said!! I am a newbie (again) to the camaro world, reborn after selling my 1979 coupe to buy a 1966 Mustang GT in 1982.
I can't imagine, yet, getting to the point you describe having had the car only 1 month, but if I do, I will definitely remember to count my blessings!!

Agree, well said. I am about to do that today. Finally got all of the little rust spots underneath touched up, rotors repainted, wheels cleaned and polished, rear axle assembly repainted, rear wheel wells coated with bed liner (thanks Kevin for the idea), front spindles painted,etc. and will be taking her off the jackstands and out for a drive for the first time in three months - can't wait!

While it may be a bit early to say it's the best car I've ever owned, it's certainly the most fun one! I've also met some great people because of this SS.

Unfortunately I couldn't go as far as you did. Our roads are still ice covered, so yesterday, I too charged the battery, then fired her up - in the garage for a while. Love the sound of that LS1 and the crackle through the Borla at the twist of the key - sell it - Hell No! I want to buy another one!

Agree 100% Bob, very well said ............... while ours are both 2002's and haven't developed the rattles yet (They will) ............. it's a part of the mystic of the cars .............. I hope we can keep them for as long as we are able to drive ............. there's just something very special about an F-Body

I can't EVER imagine complaining about anything concerning my car!! Since he is now my daily driver, the commute to and from work has become the highlight of my day!!

We got a lot of rain over the past couple of days. I'll check the roads and see if it's clean enough to go for a drive. The car cover hasn't been off in 4 weeks!

Nothing beats turning the SS keys after it's been sitting for a while. DaddySS, any pics of these mods?

I have a 69 SS396 and an 02 SS. I've also had a 80 Z28,83 Z28 and a 94 Z28. Out of all of these the 02 SS is the best riding,best handling,easiest shifting and the most powerful Camaro I have ever owned. I wouldn't think of getting rid of it, unless a better looking, more powerful Camaro comes out. Got to love the F-bodies.

I'm going to Pittsburgh this week to supervise autoshow setup.....and I just KNOW I'm gonna wanna take the Convert outta the garage and go for a longggggg ride.....but being that the roads are still a mess in the Keystone state, looks like I'll haveta take Mom's Camaro out instead...... My SS is one of the nicest cars I have ever owned. My last car before the SS was a Corvette. In fact, I owned two Corvettes in a row before buying the SS. The SS is just as fun as the Vettes were.......maybe more so in some respects. And nothing compares with the looks of these cars either in my opinion. I wanted a fourth gen ever since they were introduced, but I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of the Vette. Finally, when I made the choice, boy was I ever happy. And like a lot of yours, mine is not perfect. But who cares........for the money nothing could compare and still can't. I am hoping GM will announce the return of the Camaro soon. As much as I like my 2000 SS, I would like the opportunity to buy a new one in the near future.
