I'm 100% going. I have my room reserved and I'm talking with Teri about the carvaning out there with them.

I can't wait to meet most of you and I'm trying my hardest to recruit more west coasters.

Bunch of "bumps on logs out here"

It's too long of a drive! WHAAAAAWW!

But anyway. I'm very excited about the trip and meeting everyone. I'm gonna give some of you a taste of fun "West Coast Style"

Even though I'm an east coaster by heart.

I wish I could go. Several reasons prevent me from going. It's hard for me to take off extended lengths of time to drive out and back. I thought last year that I might fly but I would much rather have my car there. Plus a lack of funds prevented me, which is the second problem - the $$$. A few other little reasons pop up too. One of these years I WILL be going to one of the main events like Skyline or BG, even if I do have to fly there. In 01 I had the chance to go to Carlisle where the 2002 was debuted and it was unbelieveable.

We need to get more events here in the West, either Northern CA, Southern CA, Arizona, wherever....

I'm one of the wusses that doesn't want to drive that far. I would want to bring my wife and it would be too hard to find a place to leave the kids for that long.

I second the suggestion to get some west coast events going though.

They are 7 and 11. I'm sure they would love to come along too but that would really be a long drive in the back seat.

....unless you flew....

Reason I asked.....if they like cars at all, there is go-karting on Thursday nite, as well as autocross and drag racing to watch....tours of the Corvette museum and the Corvette factory.....and also side trips like Lost River Cave (you go in this boat wayyyy inside a cave!); just depends on how adaptable they are....

.....my son is very adaptable.... - <-------on his head if he isn't! LOL!!

Who is "they"?

Everyone expects someone else to organize something. All it takes is for a group of people on the West Coast to find a venue and do some intense planning to have an event.

On that note, one of the better events on the West Coast is the Pacific NW Camaro Club's All Camaro Show (now called the All Chevy Show) in August. I don't understand why more people from the West side of the continent don't attend. There was a great group of folks who caravaned up for the first time from California last year (read one of the latest issues of Camaro World for info). This event has the potential to get bigger than it already is (it draws a few hundred cars with a lot of room for expansion) and is backed by the WCC.
Rumor has it the Fbodfather will be there this year (as long as there's no blackout again). He can attest to this show's fun factor...he's attended several times with the Camaro Legends Tour.

Watch THIS LINK for show info as it develops.

I'd love to be there, but the wife would kill me if i left for a week & car shows are not really her "cup of tea" if you know what i mean...tho she understands my "Hobby" but, she wouldn't go....and i'd pay hell for it when i got back, if i did go, even if she let me go......know what i mean??

Now, the "All Chevy Show" sounds doable, as it would be a long weekend for us....Thanks for the "heads up"...which brings me to another topic, I've been tring to get a Vta/SB/TO Camaro club going for awhile now...everyone say's yeah great, but everyone is busy, etc, doda, doda....

I say let's post a time to meet somewhere (park, shopping center, burger shop) and have a meet, plan a date and make plans for it.....

Don't forget So Cal....The (SLP) CAD @ Castaic Lake is due to happen again in April...if we can get it together again...This would be a great time to get organized.

I hear ya Teri, I planned one of our cruises over here ( The Santa Barbara cruise) and it does take alot of effort to make it happen.

Then you get the people who say "we should go here or there next time" and don't want to help out with the route.

It takes time and planning.

The hardest thing is picking the date. Someone always wants to change it.

But oh well

and Yes we should be planning Lake Castaic Picnic II. I emailed Roland about it.

That's sad, but I have heard that many times. One shouldn't have to pay consequences for enjoying themselves once in awhile when they participate in their hobby. Does she have a hobby of her own? How do you show your support for that? The event in Bowling Green isn't just a car show....it's centered around the people and activities to get to know each other.

Going on road trips with my husband is something I look forward to. It's our chance to get away and connect with each other without the distractions of home and daily life. I can't imagine not wanting to spend that kind of time with my spouse and support his interests, because he also supports mine (they just happen to be similar because they're car related, but we still have our differences within the hobby).
I don't want to stifle his creativity and talent (like when he's working on his car to take to track days, etc.), and he doesn't do that to me, either (i.e. when I decide to get a group together and cook for a dozen or more people on short notice).

Spouses should be willing to attend and get to know each others interests & events. Once comfortable with that, they can each go do their own thing once in awhile and feel secure about being apart because they have participated in the activity and met the people involved.

Participating in a club activity or event is of course centered around the hobby, but as you get to know everyone, it becomes more about the people involved and is a great social outlet. When we're out to dinner with our car friends, much of the conversation isn't about cars. I have found that no matter what kind of event we attend, it ultimately is about the people. The cars are just what brings us together so we can get to know each other in other ways. For example, this message forum. In seeking information about our cars, most stumbled across this site, got to know each other and formed friendships. Without our common interest (a car) we may never have met such neat people. We are closer to people across the country than our own neighbors (and family in some cases). There are people here who can call on each other on a moment's notice if they need help or advice on any number of personal issues.
Just because we share a name plate on a car, we subsequently become acquainted in other ways and find other things in common (children, pets, life experiences, beliefs, values, etc). We've had members plan vacations and Holidays with each other because of the friendships made through the hobby.

I know I was long-winded on this, but I really feel passionate about the people I've met through this hobby that I've become involved in. Without it, my life would not be as full as it is. If I held my husband back from it, he wouldn't be as happy either, and it wouldn't make our home life very enjoyable. I think it's important to enjoy something through the eyes of someone else by seeing their pleasure and happiness when doing something they love. If a reluctant spouse gets to know the people in each other's hobby, they'd end up getting some enjoyment out of it and be more supportive, even if it's not their "thing" in the beginning, just by seeing the smile on the other one's face.

Come on up! Bring your wife and let her see how enjoyable it can be to have fun and meet up with new friends along the way. We'd love to introduce ourselves and the rest of the Portland group and caravan up with you.

....and the knowledge that there is another world out there can oftentimes give you just the push you need to do something that you never thought you'd have the courage to do.

I was severly disappointed with this event last year... and no it wasn't because da father didn't make it. I thought it was highly disorganized among many problems.... I'm not sure if I'll make it this year. I'll have to see... I may goto the Spokane show again as it was more fun (at least 2 years ago)... and better organized! My 2 cents.

It looks like BG is out of the question this year due to lack of vacation.... I want to go one of these years but it is quite a trip from the west... I may have to wait until I get moved back east. [Frown]

The new format (it used to be an All Camaro Show...now it's an All Chevy Show), trying to conform to the WCC judging (a completely new thing as compared to previous years), conflicting with a couple of big Corvette shows, site construction, and Pacific Raceways backing out of their commitment to the event made for a rocky first time, but they're going to try it again this year. Many of those obstacles are out of the way this time.
I want to give it another chance due to the many previous years this club hosted Camaro Nationals (with the help of the Oregon & B.C. Canada Camaro clubs) and the All Camaro Show on their own, to success.
This is a good group of people and the event is for charity, so I still think it's worth attending.

I may give it another chance... will have to see what this year brings... Part of it depends on what I decided to do for a vacation etc. My plans for the year are up in the air at this point.
