at 8:00am. I am a little worried. Some people have told me that it's nothing (no pain) and others have said it was the worst pain they have ever experienced. I was just wondering what you all had to say on the topic? How long can I expect to be in pain?

Just walked in the door from the dentist's office, I just had a root canal on a lower molar. The pain before, was very intense, so I was happy there was a solution!!
My current pain is from having my mouth pried open for 1 1/2 hrs!!!
Good luck, if you are still worried in the AM, take the gas!

I had one a couple of years ago ............ and while it's not like relaxing on the beach with a brewski, it wasn't that bad ............ no more uncomfortable than getting a regular filling

Don't worry about it - I've had 2 and in both cases, the relief from the pain is most welcome! The actual procedure is really no big deal - the worst part is the smell that comes from the rotting nerve! The first one I had done took about 1 hr. from start to finish and that was it. For the second one, the major part of the procedure wasdone in 1 step and was finished off the following week. Some pain started to return during that week in the interim, but was kept under control with pain killers. Your jaw will most likely be a bit sore afterwards, but again, that's a far cry from the pain you've probably been experiencing from the tooth. Good luck!

A root canal on Friday 13th? Mmmm... Mine weren't at all painful, apart from an aching jaw from gaping for ages. For my second one I had to go back for a second stint as he didn't have time to complete it in the first appointment - he found 4 roots eventually.

Yup, definitely an unpleasant experience.

If they shoot you with enough novacaine, you wont feel a thing! Just the grinding and smell. I had my first one done when I was 18, and have had 2 crowns since, and I'm only 22. (bad teeth run in the family...go figure) Nuttin to worry about (although your jaw might hurt from keeping it open so long like others have mentioned.

Good luck Matt! Make sure the doctor gives you a script for pain meds just incase you have pain after the numbing wears off.
