I was just driving home tonight from dinner with my wife and we were listening to a CD whan all of a sudden is stopped playing for a few seconds and started playing again. I thought it was the cd so I popped the cd out to put in another one only to find that the cd was EXTREMELY hot! Then I touched the face of the cd player and it was just as hot! I put in another cd (one I just bought) and it skipped too and the cd got super hot as well? Anyone have this problem with their cd player? The only thing I can figure is that most stereos have some sort of mechanism (fan or whatever) to keep them cool and that must have stopped working becasue there is no way the unit or the cd should be almost to hot to even touch. Anyone ever have this problem with any of their stock stereos? Any thoughts from anyone before I call the dealer?

Mine gets pretty hot on long trips, but not that hot. The only time I had a skipping problem was fixed by running a CD cleaner disk in it (I think I got it at Best Buys). I'll play the radio for a while or just turn it off and listen to the exhaust tone if it starts heating up the CD's.

Take it in... sounds like the fan on the back of your radio might not be working... on early ones they had had a overheating problem so they added a small fan on the back... at least the style of radio thats in the F-body and every other gm car truck from that period. I have not seen one of the newer style (with the RDS display) radio's out to see if they have the small fan....
