he said the firehawk SZ50's are still available
in our size. He just ordered a set for his
own Camaro. Maybe they're just getting rid
of existing stock but he can still get them. FYI.

That's good news! I'll need some tires this summer. Did he say if any US Firestone dealers can order them? How much per tire?

According to the Bridgestone/Firestone North American Marketing Manager when I called to inqure about this, to quote him: "What the hell are you talking about?, we're not discontinuing production of that tire!"

Straight from B/F themselves......

Well I for one sure hope his contact is right, because both my Firestone dealer and an independant retail tire distributer with a booth at the Toronto Auto Show this past week showed me the catalogue listing and they both were shocked as hell to see only the EMT Firehawk SZ50 EP listed (in 'Vette sizes).

Best regardSS,

Elie

Dave !! I got the info from President Bridgestone/Firestone Canada who has been sponsoring me the last 5 years and wants to transfer me to Bridgestone tires to keep me.

Conflicting story is quite odd,the only listing on SZ50's anywhere in Canada is one 17" and one 18" both in EMT.

If they are still producing them GREAT I will keep running them,if they are no longer producing them I preferred to warn my fellow F-Body buddies.

Better safe than sorry!!!

OFF the UNITED STATES B/F official site!!!!

There might also be a 2-3 year supply of them hidden away in a warehouse somewhere, who knows.

Just check production dates[very important]not to get a tire that is drying out!!!! [Wink]

The other issue that comes to mind is that if supply is limited and something should happen to one of the tires on a new set that necessitates replacement, then you might just be SOL, especially if you are using the tires on the track and depend on consistent handling/braking characteristics at the limit. That happened to me just after I put on this current set of SZ50 EPs. As I was going around a corner on the track, my front tire momentarily went off the pavement and came back on a split second later. I subsequently found out that the sidewall on the inside of the tire was cut rightdown to the cords. Throw away 1 nearly brand new SZ50 EP (thank goodness for road hazard warranty - and the fact that a replacement tire was available!!). I wonder how the tire dealer snuck it through - it wasn't exactly a nail puncture!).

Best regardSS,

Elie
