Well the LS1 is in place.. The shop managed to use the BRP mounts AND the S&P notched pan with a standard steering system.. NOT easy since the BRP mounts move the engine forward. I cant figure out why they do this since the motor was a LONG LONG way from the firewall and looked goofy (not to mention weight distribution).. We fabbed up a plate that moved the engine back 1 5/8 inches.. this allowed the headers to clear the steering box AND the oil pan to clear the centerlink.. Here you can see how tight a fit the headers are and if you look close you can see the custom relocation plate.
We also installed the custom radiator.. notice the in/out are on the same side. We were also able to find hoses that fit like they were made for the car at the local NAPA parts store, that saved a lot of fab work...
and here is the motor in place.. we also put in the new tilt steering column and started the Covans dash..
Well its moving fast.. hope you all dont mind the updates -- given the cost over-runs the car will have a pretty basic interior for the first year.. its all about patience i guess

Why didn't you go with power brakes?
Wilwood talked me out of it.. if you have sufficent clamping force AND the right bore on your MC then you dont need power assist.. Since I have the right MC AND 20 pistons worth of braking system I should be fine.
I want the brakes to feel solid and "mechanical".. its not like i cant add PB if I have to but I think they will work well. Wilwood did give me the brakes so I can at least take their advice

Steve that looks awesome! You are doing a fantastic job with it. And did you see your potential new income? The custom brackets for LS1 installs!!!! If parts were made available for this motor to be installed in early classics more people would probably do it.
I am sure that motor is a 396 LS1 or 427 LS1 right?

Yea, I'm way behind but he's cheating and having a shop do the work.
Don't be bitter -- remember that you PLANNED on a huge project.. i just stumbled into it
Yea, 427.. right.. a whopping 346cui with stage II heads and a 224 cam, 3:37 gears and a 3800 Yank in a 4L60E trans (auburn posi and strange axels with c-clip eliminators)..
Can you say hole-shot??
The braid shop i use is Deering Industries in Signal Hill (long beach) California.. ask for Mitch. has been there FOREVER. I dont have thier phone # on me so call information or email me if that dosent work.
Should have new pics on the site later tonight..

Sponsorship.. well thats a long story but since im local to them they knew of my 2000 SS with thier brakes and liked what i did.. i called them and asked them to sponsor the 69 (expecting a discount)and after relating the "vision" of my car to the marketing manager he asked me if I wanted 4 or 6 pison brakes?? I about fell over and they shipped me $2800 worth of brake parts the next day.. surprised the hell out of me.
Tips to get sponsors: 1. dont expect much.. most give discounts 2. have a plan for the car 3. have a website 4. mention past sucesses (mag features, shows won, races won) 5. whats in it for them? ie. how will you help promote their product (a show sign, stickers (yuck).. 6. be professional
Thanks BadRag.. I should be good for the picnic.. The interior will be pretty basic but the rest should be smokin Oh, i wont have the nitrous yet either
A couple more pics:
I just love that pic for some reason
Firewall clearance:
and can you name all the stuff going into my radiator???
