I think that's all of us now. Impressive
looking aren't they? Now who's gonna be first
with the install? I'm nervous about cutting
off my SLP Y. Mine had to be welded in - on
the 98's it was not a bolt on. Don't want to
cut in the wrong place, measure, measure,
measure!

I haven't installed mine yet. I think I was about the 2nd or 3rd to get mine in. I was hoping to do it this weekend but I don't think it is going to work out. Maybe the next weekend.

I started mine tonight...pulled the y-pipe and drained the oil. I'm still wondering just how high I've have to just this beast up! [Eek!]

Since your first - you can report back and tell
us [Smile]

My plan is to put a 2 X 4 under my front ramps
and use the jack and stands in the rear. I
think that should give my enough height.

That will work for the passenger side and all the Cat and Y-pipe stuff but not for the drivers side!

This worked great for everything except the Drivers side. I had Rhino ramps under the back wheels also. After driving onto the front Rhinos, I jacked up the rear and placed ramps under the rear wheels.
 -

I had to jack up the car to this height to get the Drivers side in. (Once again just the right position and turning, It's there don't get frustrated and requires no forcing!). Once I had the header in, I lowered the car back down to the Rhino ramps to finish the connecting.

Worked about 8 hours today and made good progress. The headers are in and torqued down. Had a little scare though. (Beware that the exhaust manifold bolts are installed with a thread locker...that means you will need a wrench for every turn.) Anyway I was using a somewhat cheap 12 point socket, wasn't paying attention and sort of rounded off one of the bolts. [Mad] This gave me an excuse to buy a new 6-point socket set which fortunately, with some careful attention allowed me the remove the troublesome-bolt. I highly recommend that you use 6-point sockets for these bolts. The drivers side went in fine but you have get the front bumper up 32"-36". I used blocks of wood on the rear wheels, about 4" worth, rhino ramps + 2x12" + bricks to support the front wheels. The last few inches was a floor jack and a single 4x4x4 under the side frame for the last few inches. More than that on the jack was too scary for me.

A few other things, my shop manual said to use thread locker on the new bolts. You will have to move the passenger side coil packs over to reach the last bolt on the new manifold, and you should disconnect the battery. Also I removed the cats from the existing manifold before I pulled them. This gave me little more room and reduced the weight considerably.

Gordon's instructions were pretty good overall, but didn't provide any torque specs, and a few steps.

Tomorrow the cats, y-pipe, and a test drive. [Big Grin] [Cool]

Email me if you have questions, and good luck!
