and my burner kicks butt!!! Nothing quite as much fun as a Sony DRU-530 and the miracle from 321 studios.
If you are thinking about getting into dvd burners, a dual-layer like the sony is nice, and not too pricy ($350 or so), and DVD XCopy Platinum, assuming it will still be on shelves in the next 6 months, is fantastic for burning backup copies of your favorite movies. Took me forever to find a copy of the Platinum, though. Dont confuse it with the DVD XCopy Express, that just takes a single dvd and puts it on 2 cds, so its cheap, but your quality goes down, and you have to interrupt the film... Any of you into this stuff? Opinions, questions?

I just bought an NEC-2500A....for $100, I couldn't pass it up.
I haven't used Xcopy yet...i'm still stuck on free stuff like DVDShrink which works well for me. Is it worth getting DVDXCOPY Platinum? I also have Nero 6 Ultra and DVD Recode on that works pretty well, but you have to have "unencrypted" DVD
Unfortunately, I don't use my drive as much as I thought I would. Media is still too expensive to waste like I do with CD's. Plus, not too many uses for that much data storage. Basically it's just movies. Maybe I'll use it more after board exams are over....

DVDXCopy is great, because it will bypass the CSS encryption on movie dvds. Thats the great thing about it as a copying utility. If you do just data storage, thats not bad, but honestly, you are better off to buy an external hard drive. Look on pricewatch.com , the best seller is House Of Computers. For what you spend on an external hard drive will be much less than DVD media, and you ahve something with a larger capacity and longer lifespan. but if you want dvdxcopy, you will probably have to get it online, since 321 studios lost their court case, and are now having to pull it off the shelves.

Ya, I actually started D/L'ing Xcopy off of their FTP site....but I guess you need a reg code. Oh well.
My burner is in an external firewire/usb enclosure so it's pretty convenient. For data storage I can just get another cheap enclosure and hard drive, which after rebate are like $20 these days. Or, just keep doing what I do, which is burn a lot of cheap, free CD's (TY's). It works well for me since I don't have data that I really need to keep secure.
But, I might check out this XCopy platinum. Is it better, by a lot, then DVD Shrink?
