spray I might buy some [Big Grin]

as for the plate covers... they are illegal and I would never use one [Wink]

they say the reflective sparkles work better than the one that distorts the plate.. any guy looking at the pic can interpret the fuzzy letter to what they actually were..

as for lazer, all they will do is reflect it off something else on your car...

I have one of those on my SS.I also had the same one on my Oldsmobile 98 Regency. While on vacation a few years ago in Canada, I was driving in the 407 near Toronto. When you exit that highway and get on the 403 or 401, there is a sign you drive under and it takes a picture of your licence plate so you can get a nice little toll bill in the mail. My brother inlaw was right in front of me and he got the letter in the mail and I never recieved one. Seems like that worked for me! [Smile]

Greg, here's some info what I know about the 407 toll highway. There are cameras that take a picture of the rear plate when you enter and when you exit the highway. The company that owns the highway has direct access to the Ministry of Transportation computers and they are able to determine who owns the vehicle and therefore send them the bill.

Another option is to get a transponder and that avoids getting a "No Transponder" fee added to your bill. Trucks require the transponder because the rear plate is not visible in most cases. The transponder electronically detects when you enter and exit the highway.

If your rear plate is obstructed in any way, you could receive a fine if caught. Even driving your pick up with the tailgate down could get you a fine.

When the system was first put into operation, only Ontario drivers received bills for using the highway. Everyone else got a free ride. It may be possible that there are now agreements in place with other jurisdictions that allow billing to non Ontario plates. Perhaps someone else on the board has more info on that.

One more interesting item. The road starts on the eastern end of Toronto. The cameras are about a half mile from the start of the highway. In September, 2002, I had not yet driven the SS on the 407 yet, so there was no record of my plate number in the system. It was late on Saturday evening so when I got on the highway, it wasn't very busy. I decided to try something, so I launched the SS and went under the cameras driving over the lane dividing lines at a speed that won't be mentioned here. (My avatar is my plate number). I did pretty much the same thing at the exit to the 401. I haven't received a bill in the mail yet for that trip so I think that I may have been too far away from the cameras for them to get a good shot of my plate.

Yeah, now that you mention this, there is a separate camera for each lane right? Maybe out of the range for the lens. Next time I am ever on that road again, I will try that. The bad thing is if somehow both cameras took the picture and you recieved 2 tolls in the mail.

I've heard of guys with pick up trucks pulling trailers with long tongues and getting dinged twice, one for the truck and one for the trailer.

I guess the camera got a shot of both plates and the billing system automatically sent out a bill for each plate.
