I was VERY lucky. Many friends are gone. They had from 3 to 38 years of loyalty to this company. It looks like the rest of us will be gone within 6 months. If you hear the word synergy, plan on layoffs. [Mad]

Definitely not the news anyone wants to hear. These layoffs affect everyone, ...whether you were lucky to still have a job or did get axed. I still work for IBM (luckily for 23 years), ...back in the mid 90's many namy of my good friends were 'let go'. Very sad the way they go about it, ...and to hear time and time again from management, ..."well at least you weren't affected by the layoffs". ...what are they thinking.
Hang in there, hope all works out...

Kevin

I'm in the same boat, should have been laid off last June. Looks like the middle of May for me now. Been there 20 years. [Frown]

I spent 22 years in telecommunications and was caught in the big meltdown 2.5 years ago. After the initial bitterness, I realized it was the best thing that could have happened to me.....big bucks & big stress aren't worth it!

Take advantage of your current job situation and start thinking about the potential next phase of your professional life.....laying the foundation now is analogous to long term financial investing....one step at a time vs. going for the home run.

Good luck!

Excellent advice. It's just a fact of life anymore that no ones job is safe no matter what you think. That is the mind set that we all should adopt (unfortunately) so we are better prepared to deal with these things if they hit us.

I really feel sorry for anyone who has had to face a layoff especially if another job may not be readily available. It's all very stressful.

Glad you made it through.. sorry to hear it might just be for now..

I was axed a little over a year ago from Panasonic after 14 years of working my way up.. was dissapointing to say the least..

Companies have NO loyalty.. if they can save $1 buy sending you off they will.. it may suck but it is what it is..

best of luck to ya [Smile]

Glad you didn't make the cut this time Bill. I have gone through that a few times in my working career. It is never fun. I am glad I am retired so I don't have to go through that anymore. Good luck in the future.

Great advice. Thanks for all your support. It was hard going into work today and seeing 12 empty work spaces not to mention the previous empty spaces from layoffs in July and Sept. 03. At one time we had over 800 employies. Over the past three years between mergers and sell offs we are down to around 25 of us left. I have been strengthing, (cutting down on spending), my financial situation over the last year. I will never be ready for what's coming but life goes on and my family as well as the SS will get through this.
I plan on attending BG this year regardless of my employment.

Glad to hear you didn't get laid-off and hope it never happens. Man what a shame as this used to be the "Land of Opportunity." And now Lay-offs and jobs continuing to go overseas. Truly blows my mind. [Eek!] [Frown]

A wake up call indeed. If you can see it coming
for you, time to look for a new job is now.

It's easier to get a job if you have a job!

As Kevin said - it affects everyone!
