Ok gang, looking for some advice. I am building a new garage attached to my house. I of course, have to put a lift in it. I am thinking I want a 2 post lift so it is easy to do things like take the wheels off. What suggestions do you all have. I know nothing about lifts! I want to make sure that I get the right one. I plan on doing a lot of work in this garage. Hopefully I can get that 69 SS/RS that I want or a 70 Chevelle SS to restore. So, it is not just to park cars on and under, I want a good working lift.
Thanks in advance, I KNOW there will be good advice here.

Dan are you going to attach the "new garage" to the south side of your house? I would go with a twin post electric lift.Let me know when its completed,I'll be over to install my exhaust I just got done installing my new cross drill rotors and pads. They look awesome Posts: 173 | From: Nashua,NH USA | Registered: Feb 2000

Dan, Most definatly get a electric over hydraulic two post lift. I HIGHLY recommend getting assymetric type. This offsets the posts mostly to the front. So instead of the posts being next to the doors and you cant open them, they will be just between the front wheels and the doors. Get one that will lift about 10k pounds. I got the "Forward" brand, and I highly recommend it. Dont bother with the "vette adapters" though, as they are too tall to really fit under most of the C5's anyway. Just buy the plastic C5 vette lift adapters, and use those to lift the Vettes. Mine was about $3300.00 delivered and installed. Have somebody else install it. They are very heavy. Also, if anything goes wrong, its their fault!
Hope this helps!

You need MORE garage space! You're a garage space junky!
Now I know where to bring my SS for the custom installs! What size garage are you doing? Is going in the back where the shed is?

Brian, it will be just inside the fence. The double doors that go out the existing garage to the back yard will go into the back of the new garage. The three doors will face where the shed is now, I will move the shed.
You know you are welcome anytime. The lift will come in very handy.
All my friends are welcome anytime, I love working on the cars and hanging out. You just need to bring Greg or Steve with you so we have someone that actually knows what they are doing.

Sounds like a great plan adding the garage, never enough garage space...I keep thinking of doing a (large)garage addition to my house, but looks like this summer I am only vinyl siding my house, did my Dad's house last summer. Al

The electric hoist are the way to go. Lower maintainance and when something does need work the floor does not need to be opened up.I don't know if I want a 4 post drive on hoist or a 2 post. Both have pros and cons, but whichever one will serve the best for the money. I wish I could afford one of each. Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002

...sounds like you already got some great advice. As Steve mentioned, the "asymetric" type would be a plus...

Unrelated to the lift I would seriously recommend you put hot water heat in the floor. I've got my set at 55°F and that provides a comfortable work environment from floor to ceiling.
