At work there is this guy who always talks crap about my Z. He says he does not understand why I don`t drive it. I told him I do drive my Z just not in the winter and I try to avoid rain when I can. He thought that was funny. Then he ask me why do I put all that money and time into the car,for what? I told him because this what I enjoy doing. Its a hobby, its what makes me tick. This guy loves Mustangs. He had two 5.0`s and they where in very bad shape. He had one of them painted at MAACO for $300.00 but he talk trash about my Z. He destroyed both cars by driving them through the winters. Just running the crap out them. One of them had a huge oil leak. He had no $$$ to fix it so he kept a case of cheap motor oil in the trunk. Everytime I see this guy he ask me all these questions about my car. I think he`s just jealous. As long as I have known him he has always had issues with me and my Z. Just venting.

Don't worry about it. I've found in life there are always idiots around...get rid of one and another will soon replace him. Keep on tickin and pamper that Z.

Obviously you should listen to this guy and drive your car year-round, and throw a couple of cases of oil in the back of your Z too. It'll aid in traction in the snow, so you'll be set for anything, be it an oil leak or traction control.
Ok, I'm just kidding. It's what these idiots do. Take it with a grain of salt and keep on doing what makes you happy. I can respect people who may question why you may spend money on your car and pamper it, etc., but who also accepts the answer as that is part of who you are and what you do. They don't understand it, just as I get confused in understanding why people jump out of perfectly good airplanes. So I try to educate them a little about my hobby.
I lose that respect when people scoff at it or try to continuously find something wrong with it. Ironically, it's mostly people that 1) don't maintain their cars (which is understandable that they wouldn't understand our hobby), and/or 2) have a bunch of kids and can't afford to sink money into cars and try to make it sound like it's somehow my fault that they're in the position they are in. To them I usually say to do what I do when I don't want one of my "kids" anymore...sell it!

Stoop down to his level Next time he's putting oil in the car make a comment and leave it at that. It's not the right thing to do but for once it might pick up the spirits. And whenever he says something about the Camaro ask if he has taken care of the oil leak yet .

He started acting like that when I bought my own house. You see jealousy never gets you anywhere.

I've always taken a lot heat about my cars. Even my boys give me a hard time about them. I even take care of my daily driver, a 95 Dakota pickup, it has headers, different intake and the engine is as clean as the one in the Camaro, well almost. My cars are my hobby, I'm proud of my cars and how they look and run.
One up side to taking this kind of care of a car is that I have never had a problem selling one of my cars when the time came to move on to something else. There were always several people wanting it because they knew how well the car/truck had been maintain and the care that was given to it.

I would have to fly to Texas and pick him up then fly back. Then fly with him back to Texas. Northwest will not allow anyone to fly on a buddy pass without a employee with them. Thanks to the 9-11 attacks.

People that put down others and try to make them feel bad are low-life's. People like that must be miserable in their own life to want to make someone feel bad. I have encountered quite a few people like that in my short life.

Steve, Don't pay jerks like that no mind and they are jealous. They don't have to be poor to be jerks like that either. I have family members that never have understood why I have the cars I do or spend on them all the time. I ask them don't you play golf 2 or 3 times a week and go hunting all the time what did you pay for those fancy clubs and what does the club membership cost you a year or your season tickets for basket ball and the trips all over the place for them. At work like you but a little different I have 2 guys in the office that are die hard ford guys but funny thing they never have one that looks food and they never even think about talking about running mine at the track they no better

It sounds like this fellow has issues. Envy is one of them.
My advice, ignore him. If that's not possible, just say..."yup you're right...." and let him think he knows what he's talking about. (which, of course, he doesn't.......)

I have experienced this type of attitude towards me for a very long time at my job. I`ve had people tell me that there are others who are jealous of me at the job. I don`t know why. I have been working for Northwest just as long as they have. When someone is doing ok for themselves there is always someone hating on you. ALWAYS!!

Alot of us have similar situations I am sure, We care for our cars alot and alot dont care for theirs much at all. Some are jealous and some will JUST NEVER UNDERSTAND US...try to ignore them, as atleast on here WE ALL UNDERSTAND.
When I got my 35th LE, I was so excited and such an acomplishment at the time for me to even be able to get a new car like this...the following month after I got it, my workplace slowed soo much and I was barely working 40 hrs a week and I was asked so many times if I still had my car and they would say "I bet your sorry you ever bought that car"...this did wear on me, but truth is I was not sorry I bought it by any means and no intention of selling it ever...Not to mention the priceless fact of all the friends and memories this car has already led me to and continues all the time. Steve I get this at work all the time be it my cars or still being single. Try not to let the guy bother you as he won't ever grow up and is just totally jealous of the fact you have a great car.
When he comes up and starts on you just smile at him and walk away. Continue this trend for a bit and then he will learn it doesn't bother you anymore and will quit bothering you. Posts: 2841 | From: Westland, MI | Registered: Apr 2003

Steve, I work with people right now that are very jealous of what I own and where I live too. Funny thing is that some of them make more money than I do.Just comes down to priorities in life. Some would rather spend their paychecks on getting drunk or eating out everyday and these are the same people that get paid on Friday and are broke by Tuesday.

Agree! I always have found it strange that some one would spend $30,000 and Not take EXTREMELY GOOD care of it . Whatever it might be. Sure drive around if thats your thing , Show, Race , Do what makes you happy I think some folks can't grasp the idea that A CAR CAN BE someones HOBBY !
