Progressive door locks is a feature of the factory keyless entry system that not everyone likes, including myself. Basically it's when you press the unlock button on the remote once to unlock the drivers door, and twice to unlock the passenger door. These instructions are on how to bypass it, so that both doors will unlock with only one button press. The double press of the button will now be an extra channel, giving you the ability to control other options such as: Remote start, Auto window-down, Turn on the radio, and whatever else you can think of that needs a pulse to activate. Please note that you will need to purchase a separate module in order to use these features, but you can still retain the factory keyless entry, which keeps the costs very low. Procedure
1. Under the glove box you will see a black panel, with two clips right at the base (by the glove box) that holds the front side of the panel up. Remove these two clips so that the panels hangs down, giving you access to the wires above it.
2. Look for a green plug. There will be five wires in it: An Orange/Black stripe, a Red/black stripe, a Grey/Black stripe, a solid Tan, an a solid Grey wire.
3. Unplug the harness. NOTE: It appears that there are two cars, those that have a single green plug that plugs directly into the ECM, and those who have the two-sided male and female plug. Determine which style plug you have and follow directions accordingly.
If you have the TWO COLORED module: 4. There are two sides to this module, the male and female side. The female side is the light green larger side. The male side is the smaller side and is dark green. You will be working with the female side. Cut the grey/black striped wire on the female side.
5. You should now have a short length of wire going back into the female plug, while the other side goes back into the car. Splice the side going back into the plug with the Tan wire.
6. The wire that goes back into your car is now your extra channel on your alarm. Its is a 12V pulse.
If you have the SINGLE module: 4. Cut the grey/black striped wire. 5. You should now have a short length of wire going back into the plug, while the other side goes back into the car. Splice the side going back into the car with the Tan wire. 6. The wire that goes back into your plug is now your extra channel on your alarm. Its is a 12V pulse.
Notes: Most remote starts and window modules only need a pulse to activate. This will let you use them with the factory alarm. Installation of these components would be done just as if there were an aftermarket alarm, except that you would hook the trigger wire to the grey/black wire that leads into the car.
NOTE: If you accidentally splice the wrong wires and end up with non-functioning locks simply replace the COURTESY fuse found by the drivers side door fuse panel (20 AMP fuse)
