Morning all ........... another Monday ......... Whoopee .......... have a good one
The picture of the day ....... I thought long and hard about this picture before displaying it ........... it's a picture that documents the start of a tragedy ............ it's the start of Blaine Johnson's fatal run
I quote Geoff Stunkard, who took the picture ....... "In 1996 the likeable Blaine Johnson was on the top of the world. After a successful move from the alcohol dragster ranks, Blaine was thundering toward his first ever Top Fuel Championship. That was all cut tragically short on this Saturday first-session pass, when both rear tires were cut down by engine shrapnel and Johnson was fatally injured, succumbing later that afternoon despite the best efforts of veteran Indianapolis doctors to save him. Like John Mulligan before him, we can only guess at what might have been."
This is the same team, led by Blaine's brother Alan, that powered Gary Scelzi (Blaine's replacement) to multiple Top Fuel World Championships. Alan is now the crew chief for Tony Schumacher's Army sponsored dragster.

Boy it was an "interesting" drive back to Ottawa (from Toronto) yesterday. It SNOWED almost all the way back. Temperature was right around the freezing point so snow (for the most part) melted on the road. However, it was ice under bridges and in a few other spots.
Snuck through an accident with a pickup and 30+ foot house trailer crossways across the highway.....after it had demolished a section of guardrail. Passed a semi stopped backwards in the center median. Saw three SUVs pointing in various directions stuck in the center median, and a sub-compact on its roof on the median shoulder.
I made it back safely, but the car was covered in ice from the spray as it froze in the air.
