I rarely post on the board but I have a problem with GM. Well, actually my dad does. Here is a brief run down of the situation. My dad purchased a 2002 35th Anniversary SS in March of 2002 from a local dealership in Lebanon, TN. Since day one there has been a roaring noise coming from the rearend. The car has been back to the dealer 4 logged times to the dealer to try and fix this problem. The car is now on its 3rd set of gears (including the originals), a new posi unit, 2nd set of bearings, and yoke. After all of this the car still has a roaring noise. Not as loud as it was originally but still more noticable than your average f-body. After all of these parts being replaced the dealership came to the conclusion that it was the housing that was not machined correctly. When the dealership tried to obtain a new housing from GM they were told that there where no longer any housings available for the f-bodies; just the internal parts of the rearend. The owner of the dealership (which is a good friend of the family) went and had lunch with a GM rep this past Friday (April 2nd) to see about trying to correct this problem. The rep told him that all GM was going to do was extend the warranty for another 2 years. The dealership owner asked would it be possibly to get a 12-bolt from SLP to correct the problem. The rep again said that the only thing GM could do was to give the warranty extension. Now that the dealership has tried everything they could to do something about the situation they told my dad that they could only take as far as GM would let them. I would not be making a big deal about this if the car had 30,000 miles on it, but the car only has 700 miles. 700 miles and GM is not going to take care of this?? My dad was actually making arrangments to purchase a 04 supercharged SS Monte Carlo and as you can imagine those plans were stopped. After 38 years of my dad purchasing new GM vehicles this has come to an end because GM does not want to be loyal to a long time customer.. Being a very, very close outsider to this I can honestly say that I will never purchase a GM vehicle again if this is how they treat their customers..
I am just wondering if it would be worth the time and effort to obtain a laywer and pursue that avenue since GM is going to let this pass by..

Cook something seems wrong here that they can't get a new housing. If I have a car that is less than months wize 2 years old and it gets hit say and bends or damages the rear do you think I would let a insurance Co. put a rear in out of a junk yard I think not. I would also say those housings fit several years of f-bods and I think the by law they have to be available for a long while not 2 years.

And I'm not sure about 97 back but I do know 98 and up had TCS because I had a 98

You might have some luck if you can find out the part # and search for it on your own. When you locate it, find a dealership willing to warranty it for you and have the part shipped to them. There's got to be a part for that new of a car out there somewhere.

GM should be able to supply you with a new housing. If they can't do this they should be willing to cooperate somehow with an alternative other than extending your Dad's warranty because that doesn't get the problem solved. Because of what has happened, you should be able to get the car classified as a LEMON.I suggest you take a look at this web site http://www.lemonlawamerica.com/state_laws/index.htm for further information on ewhat your rights are under the law. And I think you will find that if you go back to the dealer and let them know you intend to pursue the Lemon Law, they may suddendly be able to help you.

Teri, Thing is on a 2 year old car with hardly no miles he should not have to look his-self for a major part of the car. If it was a lug nut cover or other piece of plastic or something not as bad but not have that for a car that there is a few hundred thousand of on the road if you count the years

GM should warranty this,what happened to c/s? Have you tried calling the BBB better business bureau? How about looking on other Camaro boards? I am looking to buy my daughter a new Cobalt when it becomes available, but this makes me think to look at other brands! I have a toyota 96 4 runner after 2 years the floormat wore it they gave me a new set of 4 even though warranty was 12 months on mats!

We are seriously considering altnerate ways to get this resolved. If we have to contact the BBB then that is possibly what we need to do. But I am afraid it will be David vs. Goliath and I am afraid David may not win this battle..
And I am definitely not going to purchase an 07 Camaro (if & when it happens) if GM does not take care of this.. Which I am afraid they will not. Like I said in my first post. They are not treating loyal customers with the customer service that they deserve.

They should take care of this. Doesn't sounds right. Tell them to fix it or buy it back!

I did some checking on the 93-02 parts CD and found very few rear ends that are still made. On the CD this part number is showing the complete rear end housing with axle housings with all internal parts. This is for a 00-02 LS1 Camaro and has a 323 gear ratio. I couldn't find anything currently made for the complete 342 axle assembly. I found one complete assembly and checked on GM parts direct and came up with this.
GM PART # 12570107 CATEGORY: All PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $0.00 GM LIST: $2,699.42 OUR PRICE: $1,889.59 DESCRIPTION: AXLE
There is also a 1250109 which on GM parts direct doesn't come up as a valid part number.
You might want to have the dealer check this part number and see if it will work for your application.
The Lemon law might be the way to go.

I know for a fact that the housing is still available as I went through 2 of them in the past month in my saga that I posted about. Tell them to call Thoroughbred Cheverolet in Chandler Arizona and ask for Steve Marley in service and ask him where he got my housings from.
