We had a GREAT time!! Stayed in Times Square, saw 3 Broadway shows (Avenue Q, Rent, and Wonderful Town), rode the subway, saw Ground Zero, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center, ran around ChinaTown, Little Italy, the Bowery, SoHo, NoHo, East Village, Central Park, 5th Avenue......MY FEET HURT!!!!

Did not run into ANY rude people or weirdos.....or maybe I just fit in a little too well..... [Eek!]

Here's a few pics:

Glad you had a great time in NYC Millie and thank you for the pic. I can see you visited Central Park and "Strawberry Fields". I believe the last pic if I am correct is the Dakota Bldg.? If so then that is where John Lennon Lived and Died.

Thanks for the pics, Millie! One thing that surprised me was how clean the floor and the subway cars are...not what I expected, just impressed by that.

Glad you had a great time! Rest those feet!

Glad you enjoyed it. A nice place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there if you like cars. It's difficult and expensive to own a car and keep it (I was gonna say "keep it nice", but just keepin it is hard too!)

I had wondered about that.....both NYC and Chicago......what with the cabs flat running over people, seems like your car would be one big dent. I only saw one fbod the whole time I was there.....a white Z28 with a camel ragtop....fortunately, no dents in it....

Its a nice place to vist but not live . I am 70 miles from NYC and I only go there about once every year . If you live in the city a car is a headache , its better not to have 1 with all the congestion . Plus the cost to garage is out of this world [Eek!]

Sorry we missed each other!

Glad you had a great time! NYC can be a fun, FUN place. I grew up 30 miles up the Hudson River in W. Nyack. It is sad to hear when someone visits "Ground Zero" instead of the WTC. They were very cool buildings to visit. I know the place is more special now, for obvious reasons...

One of the boroughs (Brooklyn?) wanted to put up a sign that said: "Leaving Brooklyn? Fahgedaboudit!" However, some do-gooders said that it was "ethnically" insulting or something like that, and the whole idea ended up being nixed.

Rudy was in for two terms, roughly '93-'01. (I may have the years wrong) Prior to his becoming mayor, the city was extremely dirty, didn't have much pride in itself, had rising levels of racial strife, etc., etc. Rudy did a lot of good things for NYC, including getting the homeless off of the streets and out of the public transportation areas, rejunevating Times Square and the surrounding areas (used to be a cess pool of porno shops, boarded up and deserted buildings, hookers, drug dealers, etc.), expanding the police force while consolidating three different police forces into one, easing racial tension within the city, ......, and so much more. AND, he was an absolute rock after 911. He was the foundation upon which the people of the city recovered from that catastrophe.

I used to get off the subway at 45th and Bway.

There would be a homeless guy sleeping on the platform and at the top of the stairs would be a guy standing there saying "Smoke, mesc, something for your head".

WOW!!! Rudy really did a great job, then....!! My son's teacher who organized the trip told us that people would come up to us & beg for money....that we should stay in a big group....don't look at anybody.....walk fast and don't EVER stop.....yadayadayada..... [Roll Eyes]

I found it to be quite the opposite! I felt very comfortable whereever I went....even went out by myself a couple times....and Times Square seemed like Disneyland compared to what you said up there!!!

...sure wish it would stay like that....I'm ready to go back!! [Smile]

Nice pic, Kevin!

i have been a new york city detective for twenty years. when crack hit in the mid eighties, crime was out of control. in 1992 there were 2,200 murders in the five boroughs. (NYC,Brooklyn, queens, staten island and da Bronx). last year, the new york city police dept had reduced that number to less than 600. you can say that rudy did a great job, but i didnt see him put handcuffs on anyone! come back soon!
