I was in Atlanta last week and I saw a pretty rare sight. We went to dinner on Friday night at Fogo de Chao and I saw a gold SS in the parking lot. If I remember right, they only made a few of them in 1998 or 1999. I love the gold on an SS, although this one was very dirty. It was still pretty sweet looking.

If I remember right, they made the gold ones for some contest sponsered by a hotel chain. I seem to recall a thread about it on the old SLP board a few years back.
I'm sure someone here will know the story...be patient! Posts: 322 | From: Fort Polk, LA | Registered: Feb 2002

A friend of mine owns one of those 7 Sport Gold Metallic Camaro SS convertibles. There were only 3 convertibles if I remember correctly and he has the only one with a Neutral top and Neutral leather interior. He named that car "Gold Rush". Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002

The ones you are thinking of that were for Days Inn Hotels, were ACTUALLY 99 model year cars, and all were 6 cylinder cars. The gold SS cars were 98 only, and I think you are right in that there were only about 7 or so. Such a cool car!

Wow...never knew they were that rare...I've had the chance of seeing one as well! I love metallic paint, and the gold is definitely different! Posts: 2651 | From: Enola (Harrisburg Area), Pennsylvania | Registered: Jan 2002

The rarest color for '98 was actually Bright Purple Metallic. 431 coupes and 50 'verts were made in that color. If you have the '98 showroom brochure, there is a picture of it on the inside back cover. That is the only color with an asterisk beside it and I can't find a footnote that explains it!I suspect that it was not available as a Z28. There were 1371 coupes and 171 'verts made in sport Gold Metallic. 29 SS coupes and 7 SS 'verts were Sport Gold. Haven't there been 2 or 3 Sport Gold SSs at Bowling Green the last couple of years? Apparently there was was 1 Mystic Teal SS 'vert made (no coupes in that colour) and there were no SSs made in Cayenne Red, Bright Green Metallic and the Bright Purple.

Just wait until Karen hears you said GoldRush had a Neutral top!!!!
(I'm telling! )
Actually, you're thinking of "Sunny" rather than "Goldrush"....Sunny is the only 2000 Camaro SS Convertible in Sunset Orange Metallic with a Neutral top and interior......one of only 13 2000s built in Sunset Orange Metallic.....
Actually, we built, as I recall, 5 1999 Sport Gold Camaro Z28s for a promotion for Days Inn....we offered the color thru-out the year in 1998, but because it was such low volume, we dropped it for 1999.......
HOWEVER....."someone" (hmmmmm....wonder who THAT was.....) signed a contract earlier in the 1998 model year with Days Inn........and when the color was dropped.....we were bound by contract to build the cars for Days Inn.
We built the bodies up early....held 'em...and then built them as the 1999s were built.....
Karen and the Halsteds (CICC) both have Sport Gold Convertibles with Black tops and interiors....and I *think* out of the 7 we built...only 3 had black tops.......
sorry....all notes are in Detroit...and I'm in NY.

And Scott you know we liked Karen's so good in 2001 we had you build 2 just like hers except with all the SLP opts. on them both and I think only 37 in those colors was built total of both years 2000 and 2001 in a SS vert

When I lived in Virginia Beach for 4 years, I saw a gold SS at a McDonalds drive-thru while attending a car show in Hampton. I also saw a couple of gold Z28's in that area.
