I'm trying to recall how the production lines for these cars will be set up at the Bowling Green plant. I remember last year that the C5 and XLR were going to be made in different areas of the plant. (different lines?) Will the XLR and the C6 be made on the same line, since they share the same chassis?(I seem to recall hearing it mentioned that C5 convertible production will carry on simultaneously for a short time). As well, in '02, we were told that the B.G. plant had the slowest assembly line of any GM plant, but that would change when the XLR came on stream
Can anyone clarify what cars are produced on what lines?

Best regardSS,

Elie

IIRC correctly, the only part of the line that will be shared is the welding booth for the frame rails.

Out of the welding booth, XLRs will go straight into the back where the new floor space is. C6 frames will make a right turn and stay where the existing C5 line is.

At least thats what was planned two years ago.

When we went through the plant in '03, the XLR and C5 assembly lines were separate in different parts of the plant.

At one point on the Corvette assembly line tour, we could see part of the XLR assembly line. That was as close as we got to it.

I remember the comment about the C5 assembly line speed in '02. It seems to me that one of the reasons we were given in '03 for the separate assembly lines was the target quality for the XLRs. Essentially for the cars to be perfect when they left the assembly line.

In '03 there was also this rather "interesting" car sitting away from the assembly line under a car cover. It was a.............C5+......or something like that [Big Grin] [Big Grin]
