There's a guy out in TN, Billy Graham, that had 4th gen fbod only salvage yard.

Thinking of starting one here in Houston. To my knowledge there's not one.

Could buy at auction and there's plenty.

I own a freight forwarding company, so got shipping covered on outbound i-net sales. This would be sideline business, so I don't have to rely on it to feed my family. Got 6 acres to put it on....

Pros / Cons - thoughts ? thanks [Razz]

Call your local land use authority (County, City, whatever jurisdiction you're in) and find out if a salvage yard is allowed. That's always the first step.

It seems like I heard about an F-Body recycle yard in San Antonio. I'll see if I can find their name.

Don't see too many recent birds in local yards... train goes by a big yard, has a late 80's T/A and a mid 90's formula. Also saw a early 80's Z28 in there. It's by the chicago and western train yard for metra... No sign of any late 90's or early 2000's. Think most people around here will do anything to rebuild these babies! [Big Grin]

Its nearly impossible to start a new "yard" I thought about getting in the business as its all cash and thus hard to report to the 'ol uncle. You don't see any new places opening due to EPA regs etc. you often have to find an existing one as they typically contain a grandfather clause... now texas may be different but I doubt it...

thanks for replies ya'll [Smile]

might have to build garage for dismantlement. i have 20k sq.ft. warehouse. maybe complete dismantlement and discard carcas and inventory all the parts.

i know from billy's website he has all the cars in a field. set up like that might have zoning and enviro concerns / hassles.

i've been kicking it around for a while.

Call your local Planning office. That will give you your answer right there on whether or not it's worth kicking around. Until you know the land use laws, you can't do anything. Do you live within City limits? If so, what City? If you live outside City limits, what County do you live in? Maybe I can help you get started. Until you know if that use is allowed where you live, you're spinning your wheels.

If you do that, please let us know. I dont mind driving down from college station to pick up a few parts (I actually need some door interiors now, beginning to crack, and a steering wheel).
