Under stock conditions, my car was getting in the neighborhood of 21 to 21.5 mpg avg around town with some highway driving.
I got the SLP CAI kit and new smooth bellows for Christmas, and installed them soon after. I didn't measure mpgs until starting to do so 3 tankfuls ago.
My results? I got 23.1, 23.4 and 23.2 mpg on the last three tanks of gas. Same gas, same general driving conditions. That's up nearly 2 mpg with just the CAI and boot!! I doubt if the boot really did much in that department, but every little bit always helps. And the car feels like it pulls a little stronger at speeds, but nothing verified proof-positive. But with the mpg difference, I'm betting it helps with the power some as well.
On the way to BG last year, I only checked one tank but I got around 29.5 mpg with mostly highway driving. Haven't checked straight highway mpg's as of yet.

Before I had the SLP CAI on my SS, I got 28 mpg on a trip. Last year to Ann Arbor I got 31 mpg. So I guess it does work.

Nope! It works with the SS or WS6/Firehawk hood. Instructions are separate for non Ram Air cars

I'd be interested in JeffY's response to that question. I had the CAI with the SLP ram air hood on my Formula, but never could get it in my head how they worked together. I've got a Hawk now and wondering if the CAI hood would benefit from the SLP CAI unit?

Yes and no, depending on who you ask.
The directions say to NOT use the front lid seal to block off the ram air. However, IIRC, someone here did a test with some streamers by taping them on the lid, and stuffing them in the front opening of the lid with CAI. After a quick jaunt, nearly all the streamers were pushed OUT, meaning the CAI is more effective than the standard ram air.
Functionwise, the ram air works, but the CAI is probably better. So a Z28 should notice the same response with a CAI as an SS. Either way, unless someone was looking for it, they'd never know it was there.
