Last weekend I saw the news about the Arizona football star Pat Tillman , and it sent chills down my spine. I thought about his family, and what they must be going through, ...I can't imagine... I don't know the guy, but it really made me think about how lucky we have it, ...and how blessed we are for this great country we live in. This guy 'had it all' so to speak, ...yet was willing to go over there and stand for what he believes in, ...he (as many others) made the ultimate sacrifice for you and I, (think about it). And don't get me wrong, ...he's no different than any other soldier out there, ...they ALL deserve our thanks and appreciation for what they do. They ALL in my view deserve our utmost respect and honor.
This post is not about politics, whether we should or shouldn't be here or there, ...it's about THANKING A SOLDIER. To truely take a minute from our 'busy' schedules and think about what these men and women are going through so that we may enjoy the freedoms we have.
I'm sure many have family and/or friends serving right now, ...and it goes without question they must be on your mind. For every service person out there, I THANK YOU, ...and GOD BLESS...

We got into a bit of a heated debate about this last week somewhere else.
I agree the guy gave up alot, and the point is not to say he gave up more than any other soldier who is on active duty... away from home and families... but how and why he did it.
I have a softball teammate on the ground in Iraq now. I send him emails all the time. Even though he cant get online alot, he knows when he can get to a computer, he has messages waiting for him.

I have always been extremely thankful for what all the men and women in the armed forces do to protect our freedoms.

The men and women that serve our country even in times of no war or conflic deserve our thanks because we have so many willing to do just that is what keeps this country safe and strong in the eyes of the rest of the world. I have lost many family members in several of our wars and have a son in the marines now. He finished 4 years of college and then joined.

Thanks Kevin. My daughters boyfriend is in Bagdad. He emails when he can to Grace and Angela. He has sent some pictures. It is scary for of all of them and all of us. God be with them and get them home safe.

Well said Kevin. All too easy to forget as we go about our daily lives. We take freedom for granted, they can't. They know the price that has to be paid to keep people free. A very high cost indeed. We must never forget those currently serving and those who served in the past so we can live free today.

I agree we need to really Thank our troops. I think since the announcement of the war being slowed down and a lot of troops sent home that most people including myself do not Thank the ones still over there. I just hope that things will get accomplished soon and every soldier gets sent home ASAP.

On a related note, please keep Patrick Strobel in your prayers today.....(Wednesday)This morning, he's being operated on once again for injuries sustained in Iraq.
I emailed him last week...the last operation allowed him to restore some of his hearing...and he can now hear his Tom Henry Racing Camaro's chambered exhaust...........

Being a Navy "brat" for 15 years, I grew up with a dad that was gone a lot. I don't think any of us (especially myself) can actually realize what it's like to be in a situation such as war.
My wife taught a student a couple of years ago that just got back from Iraq. He brought her a couple of pictures of himself after he took an AK-47 round to the gut. Luckily, he all of his armor on, so it just caused a deep bruise. He's MAYBE 20 years old out there fighting for us. (That is just one of those awe inspiring things for me...)
Whatever your political view on it, to me it comes down to those individual soldiers overseas. They are the ones that may have to make the ultimate sacrifice. Some of them are probably asking themselves why they're there, but at least they're there...unselfishly doing a job that some of us would be unwilling to do.
They ALL deserve our support and admiration.

Nice post Kevin. We often forget what its like in war time conditions. I was in the army for three years many years ago. I served 16 months in Korea,after the fighting was over. Even I can't imagine what its like with bullits flying around. It bring tears to my eyes when I read of what some of our soldiers are going through.
