Got a problem i need some assistance with. I bought a USB 2.0 PCI card to install in my computer, to do 2 things:
1. Give me some more USB ports to work with.
2. I have a 5 1/4 4port usb hub htat is mounted on the front of the computer, in a slot normally reserved for additional CDROM drives. This hub should be connected to a port that exists internally in the computer case, however, the mainboard does not have a connection that will facilitate this (all USB connections are made outside of the case though standard ports). So this PCI card that I bought has 4 external USB ports, and 1 internal. Now, my mainboard has 4 built-in USB ports, 2 that are USB 1.1, and 2 that are USB 2.0. I have installed the card, and the VIA USB 2.0 drivers that came with it, HOWEVER, the PCI card does not function as at USB 2.0 ports. I know this because I have an external hard drive that is USB 2.0, and while it functions as a USB 2.0 device when plugged into the on-board USB 2.0 ports, it reports and error message that a Hi-Speed device is plugged into a Non-Hi-Speed hub when it is plugged into any port that exists on this PCI card. I take that to mean that the card itself is not functioning as a USB 2.0 hub, although I have installed the enhanced USB hub drivers that are needed for this equipment. I neeed suggestions on how to fix this so that the PCI card functions at USB 2.0 speeds.

FC, it sounds like you could have a compatibility issue. Are you on XP? What motherboard do you have? Which USB PCI board do you have? Is you Bios up to date? You might want to check this site for other issues. http://www.usbman.com/Guides/Upgrade%20Card%20Manufacturers.htm

I figured out the problem. Its a VIA usb pci card, and evidently, they havent yet figured out how to make one that works. So Im going to have to go buy an NEC, because those arent pieces of crap.
