Does anybody know anything about the Fuji S7000 digital camera?
I can pick one up for $350 ($450 with $100 rebate at Best Buy)
Looks like a killer deal? My Olympus C4000 still works well, but I have been thinking about upgarding..funny thing is that's less than I paid for the C4000. Of course I'll need the 256MB memory card. It looks like it has decent video capability with the large memory card too?

I have an Olympus D-560 Zoom. My first digital camera was an older model olympus. My dad has a Sony that is about 2 years old, when it came out, was top of hte line ($900). Personally, I like the olympus cameras. They are sturdy, rugged, and have lots of functionality. the designers really know what they are doing when the create menus, options, and button placement. When time came for me to buy a new digital camera, I spent about 3 months looking. Spent the first month looking at other brands, and didnt see anything that compared to the olympus products available at the time (June 2003). I spent the last 2 months looking at olympus cameras, trying to compare price with features, functionality, upgradability, etc.
Olympus cameras to me are like nokia phones: they are made well, they last, and they perform beautifully, but i am biased.
The fuji camera looks nice, are you doing professional grade stuff, or just normal family photos? It looks very nice, i guess ti depends on what you are going to do with it. My D560 cost me about $275 when i bought it last year, but i shopped around and got a bargain.

I agree with you about Olympus. I've used Gateway, Sony, Nikon and my Olympus. I just bought my mom a Gateway 4mp camera and I ended up returning it. Just found my exact camera (C4000)at Costco for $249 last night and bought one for my mom to replace the POS Gateway!!!! I'm a reall Olympus fan and have literally over 20,000 images stored on my HDD. (Backed up on 4 DVDs)
I would be considered...maybe a prosumer? I take a lot of family pictures, kids, horses, cars etc. I do a decent amount of manipulation in Photshop or Camedia.
I'm thinking I might stay with my Olympus C4000 for awhile longer and use that money for a Diablo Sport Programmer instead?

Haven't heard about that particular camera, but have heard good things about Fuji cameras in general. Maybe not as good (rep wise) as Olympus or Canon (which I prefer), but still decent. Here's a review:

Oh, and if you're so inclined, the camera goes for about $400 on most retail channels, thus, you could ebay it and try to make a decent profit, which you could then apply to the Diablo.

I just bought the Fuji FinePix S5000 which is one step below the S7000. I shopped around till I found it for $282 and ended up getting it for $306 with shipping , so if you can get the S7000 for $350 that sounds like a great deal. Only difference between the S5000 and the S7000 is the pixel rating. Mine has the 10 power optical zoom and 2 power digital zoom but I think the S7000 may have the same power zooms. So far my S5000 takes very good pictures but I have not taken it to a car show yet. A good guide for me to compare to my old digital camera. I can send you some photos I have taken if you like so you can see the quality ,

BTW I really like the camera so far
Thanks, I just got back from Best Buy. I looked and touched for about 30 minutes played with all the menus and took stills and a short video. Mostly, I was impressed, there are a few things that were awkward, but I would probably get used to them. Mainly, the on/off on the Fuji is where my zoom is on my Olympus...oops! Secondly, it powers down to sleep mode in just about a minute, PIA, but again, I could probably live with it. Lastly and most annoying, is the view finder is an "or" function. That is, you use the LCD "or" the eyepiece, but the eypiece is not direct, it just looks at the CCD.
Overall, it had the look and feel of a quality camera and for $355 it looks like a steal. It originally sold for $799 and as best I can tell that was less than a year ago. It still often sells on line for $500+.
The bottom line is just like my Dad used to say, "A good deal is only a good deal if it's on something you need." And as I said, my Olympus C4000 still does a pretty good job.
