With 49K miles on the SS I was overdue for new shocks as the OEM's seemed wore out about 9K miles ago. I originally wanted to install the SLP level one suspension but I never cared much for the ride from the Bilstien shocks I had on other cars and trucks I've owned. My goal was to keep a good ride and dial in some handling. Having had some experience with the Edelbrock IAS shocks on 4X4's I decided to give them a try. The front shocks come out of the box with Eibach coils already mounted. They have an adjustable collet that allows you to preload the shock. Edelbrock sets them to lower the front 1 1/2" out of the box. The coil over is basiclly a Eibach Pro Set that have been tuned to work with the Edelbrocks. The rear springs were Eibach pro set that called for a 1 1/2" drop to the rear. To complete the setup I used the front sway bar, rear lower control arms and the panhard rod from the SLP level one kit. Where I live now I can't really do any chassis work so I took the SS to Combonation Motorsports for the install. Dave at CM did the work. It was a pretty straight forward install with no surprises. The only suprise came when I got behind the wheel! After driving about 100 feet I couldn't beleive this was the same car. It felt connected to the road with a nice tight feel. Reminded me of the old Camaro commercials when the Camaro was called "The Hugger." With only about 150 miles on the IAS shocks it is very compliant suspension. It's stiff but it will loosen somewhat. The 1 1/2" drop looks great. It also improved my steering feel. Also I was getting vibration when braking with the old worn out De carbon shocks. Is the new set up worth the money? Parts came out to about $1000.00 plus labor. I can only say a resounding yes! Hitting expansion joints at speed in a corner would previouslly upset the car where as the same corners go unnoticed now. Hope this helps some one considering a suspension upgrade.
