IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT TO THEM" DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THIS ADMIINSTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

Sounds like the same dumb idea that has been joked about before so many times. They won't choke on anything since it'll be bought the day before, the day after or the same day by the millions that will pay no attention .

only thing is if you need gas.. you'll get it the day before or the day afterwards... so in the #'s game over a month ... they (the oil companies) will still end up with the same amount of profit... people are still gonna drive period...the thinking it will effect the overall outcome of the oil companies profits, is short sited, and is missing the entire picture...

although I agree with the idea 100% It will just not effect them enough... best way is to find alternate transportation, that is not dependent on gas, say walking or public transportation [Smile]

(another factor... refineries... name the last refinery opened up in Sol Cal... demand increased without supply ... and x amount of refineries can only deliver x amount of gas ... supply vs demand 101 )

Works for me, I filled up last Friday, my gas will last past the 19th.

Seriously:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,119782,00.html

Another Green hammer threatening the refining sector is the prohibition of MTBE (an oxygenate made from petroleum) that takes effect this year for gasoline sold in the California, New York and Connecticut markets.

The background: Federal law requires areas that are in violation of national clean air standards to use oxygenated fuel. Now that MTBE (search) is out of the picture, the only oxygenate left to those areas is ethanol (search). But ethanol costs more than MTBE-mixed fuel to make and transport; those costs will surely show up to some degree in gasoline prices this summer. Moreover, carving-up special gasoline regulations for different parts of the country increases the chance that unforeseen supply disruptions will send prices in those "island markets" soaring.

There's little we can do about world crude prices — and little we should do about the new sulfur rules. But the federal oxygenated-fuel requirement is another matter.

Before computer-controlled fuel-injection cars came along, the oxygenate rule did indeed reduce pollution. But 20 years later, the rule serves no environmental purpose. Instead, it is simply a welfare program for the Midwestern corn-based ethanol industry.

New York Gov. George Pataki has asked the EPA for a waiver of the oxygenate rule, but the EPA has not acted on his request. Not only should the EPA provide the waiver, Congress should scrap the oxygenate rule altogether.

Last time I looked it up (for a thread on the old SLP board) the ethanol lobby is based in Nebraska. And who is one of the senators from Nebraska- a well-known Democratic senator???

I believe this is pure-pork barrel- at the expense of the consumer, forced to buy a product with ethanol.

Conservation by all. Combine trips, car pool etc.

You get the picture. A lifestyle change based on
fuel conservation may help a bit. Buy scooters,
ride your bike, walk, use public transportation.

Well regular just hit 99.9 a liter up here, that works out to roughly $4.00 a U.S. gallon for 87 octane. [Frown]

Which means my 94 Octane will be about $1,15-$1.20 a liter this weekend to race,,,,, [Eek!]

Still cheaper than racegas though. [Big Grin]

This idea is as lamebrain as anything I ever heard. People are still USING gas that day so they will be buying it sooner or later with ZERO IMPACT on the oil companies!!!!!!!!!! Now if you say DON'T DRIVE YOUR CAR ON THE 19TH in protest of high prices.....then that WILL have a major impact on the economy and will get everyone's attention including Washington! Not only won't we be going to work but we won't be buying any gas or any other products either unless we walk to make our purchases. Maybe then our legislators will take a closer look at this whole situation!

94.9 cents per litre this a.m. for regular

that equals - $3.80 Cdn. per U.S. gallon!

Don't complain too much over there!
