I am looking at putting 3.73s in the back of my car. There is talk about a ring for the abs, is this necessary. Also from slp, there is a heavy duty diff and a standard one. Does the SS come with the heavy duty? How can I find out if mine has this in it?

If the ABS rear axle speed sensor reluctor ring in in the rear differential on the ring gear carrier, a new gear should be able to be swapped out with no problem.
Maybe the terminology "Heavy Duty" was for the optional Auburn differential. Nothing really heavy duty about a 7.5" ring gear differential.

Greg, you were just the guy I was thinking about as I typed "Expert advice"

As Greg said....for non-traction control F-bodies. If you have traction control there are separate reluctor rings at the end of the axle tubes. These are not affected by a gear change.
The reason. Non traction control has three-channel ABS while traction control cars have four channel ABS. Traction control needs to know the realtive speed of each rear wheel in order to limit wheel spin.

If your SS came from SLP with the Auburn "Hi-Torque" Differential as it was called, it will be noted on the SLP equipment sticker on your passenger door.

As mentioned, it will depend on whether you have traction control or not. Mine does and the rings are just inside the wheel bolt flanges on the axle ends.
To be honest, if you're changing gears for the street, I'd opt for the 4.10 gears. A 3.42 to 3.73 isn't very much of a jump, and you may not notice much of a gain in bottom end umph. But there IS something to be said about 4.10s. Reason I say this, a guy in town has a blue SS and he originally swapped to 3.73 at first, and didn't like them, then when he went to 4.10s he said it was night and day from stop light to stop light. The car really romps on the bottom end now.
It really depends on the driving you want to do. It's your money, your choice, but if I ever change the gears, or get a 12 bolt, I'm going for the 4.10 setup myself.
