Looking to help my dad redo our garage floor after spending all day Saturday cleaning it out and reorganizing it. Looking at some of the paints around, and dont wanna spend too much, so looking at getting it at either Lowes or Home Depot. I read the other posts so would like your experiences and expertise as well. Mind you, our garage is about 460 sq ft. Some questions:
**The garage have small cracks in it, and not sure if the paint alone will take care of it (will post pics later tonight).
**Defintiely will need to use some acid to clean it first (muratic acid??) Helpful hints on doing this prep work since prepwork is usually the key?
**People said that it wont work the greatest with a lot of mositure underneath. Now, we dont have a moisture sealer underneath, but our house is on a hill and everything seems quite dry.
**Also, with the acid, we have a brick driveway, and not sure we can rinse the acid off the concrete garage floor onto the driveway....we do however have a drain in the garage...hmmm
**Any other help, hints or ideas are greatly appreciated!!!

there's a lot of products out there, i've been looking a little.
i can't remember the website but there's a test to do to determine excessive moisture or not. something like taping a piece of plastic to your floor and waiting a while to see if moisture develops.
just rinse the muriatic acid down the drain; it'll be so diluted there's no harm. you won't need that much anyway.
i'd check the rustoleum website for prep and crack treatment. warranty info also
i'm leaning too towards rustoleum product for cost vs size, it's a good value.

Nuttin on the website abotu cracks...although i've been told it goes on thick, and we're only talking about hairline cracks....
I think that Rustoleum kit comes with a cleaner for the preapplication of teh paint, but I guess muratic acid will work better since it will etch away teh top later of cement.

Let me know how you do and what you decide to use. I'm wanting to do my garage floor this summer too. It would be cool to do the floor in a black and white tile but I would say that costs a lot more ,

I wonder if it's as good as the "system packages" that cost upwards of 5 times that price? I'd be very interested as in a couple of months, I will have a brand new virgin garage floor to epoxy. Even with two kits (for a thicker coat, perhaps?) would be cheaper than some of the others. Anyone here an epoxy paint expert to give us your opinions?
And Greg, if you're reading this, once you do your garage floor, since you said you had this kit, let us all know how it turns out!!!!

I priced the Griots Garage stuff and it woudl cost about $450!!!
We'll probably go in sometime to Lowes and ask questions...hopefully we get a guy who knows what he's talking about!
I've heard froma few people that the Rustoleum stuff works quite well, and is quite durable. Probably if we go that route, we'll get muratic acid instead of the 'cleaner' they provide.
Here are pics of the garage floor and cracks...I'm thinking the epoxy paint will be thick enough to just cover them up...

I haven't gotten this far yet, but have been checking out the products. Yep prep the floor is most important. These floor products will not adhere to those stains. From what I have been told you will have to remove the loose cement from the cracks and use a cement crack filler. This has to cure before using apoxy. I am either going to use the Behr apoxy product or buy rubber car mats ( hey I can take them with me when I sell).

Because of the monsoon weather we have been having right in the last 3 weeks, I never got my garage floor done. I too bought that Rust-Oleum 2 1/2 car garage floor epoxy kit. It does come with a video( I did not watch yet because I don't even have my tv and vcr hooked up yet)and does come with a special cleaner. My garage floor is not new right now. My dog Hines got sick in the garage yesterday. Time to power wash it again. If you chose to use acid, make sure you have good ventilation.

Home Depot and anyone that sells Berh paint. I like the Berh paints and that has a lot to do with the reason I would go with them. I think it is around 30 dollars a gallon. You can also buy all kinds of chips or sand for color or traction.

be careful using muratic acid, i am a brick layer and we use the stuff 50/50 with water to clean film of motor off brickwork when were done , muratic has no real affect to oil or most stains . it will clean up iron spots ,anything metal related, be very careful around bare metal ,just the moisture in the air of unpainted metal will start the rusting process . i wouldnt use muratic inside your garage .

Thanks for the advice. Maybe there are other less abrasive acids out there that will work better (and are safer) and will look into that Berh Paint as wel at Home Depot. Just looking for something that will last for the next 10-15 years, hah.

Checked into the Behr system, and even buying 2 gallons (can stretch one gallon to 500 square feet, but figure two cans would do the trick right) plus the Behr concrete cleaners, etc, it would cost about the same as the Rustoleum. They've got rebar and the wire stands ready to go for inside the garage, so I'll be getting concrete to coat soon. By the time we get to move in, it should be fully cured and ready.

Doh! I hear ya about the rain..luckily it was dry saturday and sunday. Have yet to make it to Lowe's and HD with my dad. I dont think he has made a final decision. A friend of the family has does it and wants to talk to him as well.
