The "lil weasel from Bakerstown" ( [Big Grin] [Big Grin] ) asked me to post this story........

(how come he gets all the fun, huh?????)

(double [Big Grin] )

Tom writes:

I had to tell this story to somebody, figured it was a good place here.
The State of PA is putting in ticketless tollbooths on the Turnpike,
(EZPASS). They are in the process of validating the cameras and computers
for it and through a friend of mine they asked me if I could make a high
speed run through their system to check it. <G> They were having trouble
getting the cop cars up to speed in that short of a distance. I had a 10
minute notice AND I happened to have my Tom Henry LS6 powered 02 Camaro here with 4.10s, BAER brakes and chambered exhaust. An unnamed
official rode with me, it was an area blocked off by Jersey Barriers. I had less than a 1/4 mile before running through the cameras and
equipment and about the same distance to shut down. I took a slow run to
make sure how much distance I had to stop, cut through the barriers and
returned to the start. They waved me out and I floored 1st from a
standstill, overcoming the traction control and putting stripes on their
brand new asphalt. Just as I hit 4th I went through the cameras at 85 MPH
and stood on the brakes. I had passed the turnaround area so I had to back
up. The walkie talkies said they had me but could I do it again?
(is a duck's? does a bear????)

I was already rolling back to the start! At this point a crowd was lining up. I
backed up as far as I could and let loose again, when we stopped I heard
them say 94 MPH on the radios.

I asked the guy if they wanted me to
try for 100 and he said what the heck go for it.

One more pass full blast
but another 94.
Afterwards they showed me the pictures and they had about 4 angles of
my license plate clear as a bell and the electronic toll ticket worked every
time. When I left I could see patches at my shift points on the new
asphalt. Made my day.

About a year and a half ago, I thought I would try to see if the cameras on the 407 (which is an electronic toll road in Ontario) would be able to pick my plate up at a high rate of speed. I entered the 407 where it begins at the east end of Toronto. The cameras are located overhead on each lane a bit more than a quarter of a mile from the highway entrance. I launched the SS and didn't let off until I was past the cameras. Most of you can pretty well figure out how fast I was going by the cameras, and I never did receive a bill in the mail for that trip. [Big Grin]

LMAO! That's quite a little "strip" where the 407 begins there! Long, wide, straight and open! I must admit that it is very tempting to let 'er rip in that spot! I wonder what the speed threshold is for not picking up a transponder! [Wink]

Elie

Being an electronic device, I don't think that you can out run the transponder [Frown]

I think that you can be fined big time if you get caught on the 407 with an obstructed plate. I've even heard of pick up truck drivers getting nailed for driving with the tailgate down.
