Last night I cuaght a little bit of Art Bell. He had a uest that had it all mapped out. Also, Yellowstone is threatening to erupt. The surroinding area has risen 29 inches in the last decade. He predicts a possible eruption that would shoot lava 150,000 feet in the sky, bombarding the earth with huge freshly baked boulders. It would instantly kill all within a 600 mile radius. [Eek!] The rest of the earth would soon be covered in ash and no vegetation would be able to make it through...not that there would be any sunlight left to support photosynthesis! Best case is a few thousand people of the entire earth's population would survive. [Eek!] [Eek!]

Good news is...in a few million years, we would all be re-constituting the earth's oil supply. [Big Grin]

Absolutely!! In fact, we had quite a lively discussion on Addict last week about the authenticity and preeminence of the Christian Bible as it pertains to certain lifestyles!!

so.....what's your position on Evolution vs. Creation, Mr. poSSum?? [Smile]

Since you asked ... [Big Grin]

Literal 6 day creation of a perfect world and universe 6,000 or so years ago.
The "fall" of man and the entry of sin and death into the world in the garden of Eden.
A global flood which dramatically changed the earth, and produced much of the rich archeological plant and life history we find.

I also believe that true "science" can prove neither, as in either case we are looking at non-reproducible events. Both creationists and evolutionists have a faith element in there beliefs.

And yours, Ms. cytruffle? [Smile]

Welllll.....I grew up believing in the literal creation, but the older I get, the more questions I have (not only about this, but everything else as well!), so that now, I honestly don't have an opinion that is set in stone.

COULD there be another inhabited planet somewhere in the universe, maybe more than one?? COULD human life as we know it have come here from some other planet?? OR did we evolve from single-celled creatures over a period of eons?? OR did a supreme being actually, literally, take up clay/dust and form it into human shapes and breathe life into them?? WAS there really a big bang....and Earth just got the lucky pole position so that life could form on it?? Is there something else out there besides the "life" that we know which has form and substance....something akin to a spirit world, or even a "world" that we with our human brains cannot even conceive of??

You are exactly right when you say that faith plays a huge role in the varying philosophies of creation, because not ONE of us has the complete, unabridged text of what this is all about.

.....but I'm sure glad that God created the guy who created Fbodies!!!! [Wink] [Big Grin]

Actually my "I'm screwed" comment was in jest. Millie may know this, but for the record I am a practicing Catholic. My two daughters are very much invloved in their religous studies with our local parish. The arguement of evolution vs creation will never be known until such a time that we either meet our maker ...or turn to dust. I do know that as I lay near death in a hospital bed and awoke to my preist and my family...certain things took on a little more meaning. I still love humor and often can not help interject (at least attempt) a little humor on even the most somber occaision.

Possum, I apologize for not being clear about this, I have posted at lentgh before, but on a different board. I believe in God and that Christ died for my sins. I beleive that while the Church has its sinners even in the preisthood, most (and all that I know personally) are good people serving to a higher cause. I know my preist very well and in him is the beauty that few men can claim...he is a wonderful man and I have a true love and appreciation for him.

Well then...any more questions? [Big Grin]

Cy, I reckon there was too much mushy stuff and not enough of that there gore stuff for me. Sure Troy had some fantastic scenes, but... Hey it was OK, and it could have been great, but... Wife loved it, so in my way of thinking it was a chick flick, because she always likes chick flicks.

It could be because there was more beefcake than cream puff too.

Coming in a bit late on this one, but...

I dont believe that you can literally follow the bible, there are too many holes, left-out-details, etc. However, I do not believe that the explicit details are important, its the spirit of the message that is truly important.

Also, i note that the order in which life is listed in the bible is almost the identical order that is proposed by evolutionary scientists. I also dont believe that man evolved from monkeys, and that the "missing link" scientists look for is actually intervention in evolution from a higher entity, namely God. The reason I believe this is that the things that happened to make us different from the apes are things that are not normal. There is no reason at all in evolutionary theory to explain why a group of apes would have dropped all their fur in the middle of an ice age (which is what a lot of people believed happened). Even if the scientists were completely correct in their theory, they are at a loss to explain the impossible.

Hence, a la 2001: A Space Odessey, something interfered with the normal way of things, the result being modern man.

I also think that since we can observe natural selection and evolution occurring in life forms around us, its obvious that it does exist. I also believe that evolution is a tool that God uses to generate new forms of life, and improve on his existing design. Just like DNA, its something that the creator uses. The existence of DNA, and evolution do not necessarily denounce God, they simply explain a bit about how he works (the ways are no longer quite as mysterious).

Additionally, remember that the Big Bang Theory has actually been found by the catholic church to not be in violation of church law; its not heresy. The big bang theory is just another example of how God does what he does.

Finally, when you look at life on this planet, and the number of things that had to happen in just the right sequence, it becomes apparent that the probability of it happening by accident is so low, that it borders on being impossible. That does help prove the existence of a creator.

And of course, I have seen enough proof in my lifetime to make me believe in the devil. And if he exists, then God must exist, or else we are all screwed. Ergo, God is real, and he has a very ironic sense of humor.
