Well a lot of you have shared your horror stories about how you got the shaft by GM service and how GM customer relations suck. I've always tried to stay on the bright side and to date, I've been treated very well when I take my Chevy's in for warranty work.

Well today, I had to take the Suburban in for a few things and today was different. They treated me...


EVEN BETTER [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Here's the list of issues I had with the 03 Suburban at 16,000 miles and 10 months of faithful service.

When driving over mountain passes under lateral loads upon hitting a road surface change I can feel a minor clunk transmitted into the steering wheel. Very minor, but irratating.

Mike, (my mechanic) went with me for a test drive. We couldn't really replicate the problem, but he said he believed me and researched it and found a TSB that came close. He's replacing the steering shaft.

The other issues were minor, first. the driver's side seat bottom has a minor crack in it...a new leather seat cover is on its way.

Second, the seek button on the radio has some of the finish coming off...a new entire head unit is on its way.


Third, one of the air vent louvers was loose in the mount...a new louver is on its way.


I know some of you have had real issues with butthead service managers, but for me, I can say nothing but good things about all of my dealings with GM service.

Sounds like your dealership is as good as the one I have [Cool] .

Took the SS into to get the oil changed last week . Had my oil and filter and was charged a Whole $8.31 thats right less than a 10 spot [Big Grin] .

It must be a California thing then....we have terrible dealers and service here. 18 years
of experience at dealers from San Fran to San Diego..... I've had 2-3 decent experiences.

Ive always had great service managers.. nobody ever became a jerk and tried to void me for all my mods..

I just had a few issues with bad mechanics but that happens..

Always great to see a post involving someone who is pleased with dealer service beyond their expectations! Who is currently running the slogan, "Meeting our customers' demands... and exceeding them."? Chevy? Funny how I can remember the slogan, but not who has it out there! [Confused]
Anyway... I thought you'd be interested in a price check with your leather seat cover.
Just for fun, I asked my dealer today to look up the price on the leather piece for the driver's seatback on the SS, 'cuz the side bolster is just about done where I get in and out of the car (like everybody else's [Frown] ) List price for just the seatback was CDN$604!

Funny...I'm starting to wonder why we call them American cars [Confused] . This weekend I replced the front bumper on the Suburban.(no warranty work for the wife's lack of driving skills [Roll Eyes] )The new bumper (and the original) proudly display "Made in Canada". I know that our 4th gen Fbodys were made up in the great land to the North, but I didn't realize how much of the other vehicles can trace the origins there too. [Smile]

Good to hear the good stories about dealer service.

I have had my share of ups and downs, although I only take the cars in for warranty work. I couldn't believe changing out the power window motor on my SS would have cost me over $300 if I had to pay for it. Thank god it was under warranty. [Eek!]

Tim, I would like to know what TSB you are referrring to because our 03 Tahoe does the same thing. In fact, we just had it in the dealer for a couple minor things last week, including the steering clunk you described. They used some kit to inject oil...well let's just say they didn't fix it.

5'll get ya 10 that when (I mean "if") the 5th Gen Camaro is built, it will be manufactured in the GM Oshawa (Ontario, Canada) plant! (best quality product rating in the corporation!)
Geez... now wouldn't that be a total stroke of genius... what with the engines for these cars being built in St. Catharines Ontario - just a couple hours down the QEW and 401 from Oshawa!!

Yes, that is the recommended fix now. They were replacing the upper intermediate steering shaft. My mechanic said the grease kit seemed like the shaft wasn't the only thing getting greased and since it was such a new car he opted to replace the entire unit. I have the TSB at work, I'll get you the info tomorrow afternoon. I have to go on a field trip with my daughter in the morning. [Wink]

Good to hear that you had great service. When my 2000 GMC Sonoma was still under the factory bumper to bumper warranty with only 19,000 miles on a almost 3 year old truck, I got the run around from 2 different dealers, each pointing the finger at each other. Normally anytime I had my cars into a GM dealer for service, I would recieve a survey card from GM asking about how my service went and how I was treated. I'mn still waiting for that survey card! Seems that since I called Customer Assistance with a concern, they don't want any negative feedback. [Roll Eyes]

Can you tell me what dealership you take your car to? My SS is currently in Reno, waiting for me to finally lose my job here and move out there. But the 3year warranty will expire before I will be able to move. At this point I will have to fly out for a few days, just to take my car in for service. Of course, that way I will get to drive it. I haven't really driven it since I put it up for the winter, last October. Thanks
