Opened the hood of the SS today and noticed that the hood had scraped the "New" SLP lid I just got . Normally this would be no problem EXCEPR that I just had it painted to go with the car. Now I have a nice shiny lid with a Black spot in the middle . Not a big one but enough to notice.
Anyone else have a problem with the two hitting/rubbing eackother. And what did you do to fix the problem.

Same problem here- usually associated with the tabs at the back of the air box not being inserted all the way. I find that the air box walks out over time, you just need to reposition it every few weeks, or less.

Ed first make sure the lid is going all the way back into the tabs and second you can screw out the hood stop bumpers at the front a little but keep check on the hood getting above the fenders to much and become to high. From the looks it won't take much.

I have the Whisper Lid and the hood has been hitting it and leaving a mark since I installed it in '99. It leaves a mark, but I haven't touched it. I spent a lot of time aligning the hood by twisting the rubber bumpers and after getting it as straight as I can, I've learned to live with the scuff mark. That being said, I suppose tacking a piece of foam on the underside of the hood where the contact is being made couldn't hurt! Good luck!

I have the OE lid and I've never had that problem. I did have my filter drop out on one corner, but I believe that was user error.

I have the same problem with my painted lid. If you look at my website you will see that I have put little rubber squares on the airlid to prevent any further rubbing

My neighbor has the PP lid and you see the marks from the lid hitting the hood. That is one of the reasons I went with the Blackwing Lid. Plus I like the OE look.

Just an idea here...maybe not so good an idea for those of you with it painted...carefully and evenly heat that area of the lid where it rubs, gently push down in that area only enough to get it to better clear. Al

It is a problem with some of the aftermarket lids.
Hate to say this, but I think the only way to ensure the lid wont rub... is to get an OE lid from SLP and have that one painted.

Found that the smoooth bellows that I put on was pushing the lid up a little. Loosened it up and pushed down on it and hopefully to will take care of the problem.
