with the PPC headers, RT hi-flo cats amd the hi-flo Y-pipe. Everything is fine except I need to adjust the AFR based on the sniffer. I'm going to shoot for 12.9 - 13.0 on the sniffer. I would think that with the hi-flo cats there would be a negligible drop in the readings.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a good increase in HP and TQ from the headers. [Big Grin]

I am running just above 13.0 for an average. And I have no knock retard. I would think your best ratio should be aroung 13.0-12.9. Just my .o2

11.0 is too rich. For a NA LS1 12.8 - 13.1 is ideal. Of course if you have enough time on a dyno tune you can make as many runs to try and fine tune for that extra couple of HP.

Well, I gained 12 rwhp but only 1 rwtq. Not exactly leaping for joy on the tq. I'm hoping that I'll gain the full benefit of the headers with heads and cam. If I wasn't going with heads and cam I'm not sure I'd bother with headers.

I was also very dissappointed to be under the car and seeing rust on the PPC headers already, on a car that doesn't see any weather. One of the reasons I bought the PPC so I wouldn't have to worry about rust. There isn't alot, yet, but it will get worse if it has already started this quick.

So what was your total HP/TQ. Is the "after" since you put in the 4.10s, or were they there for the before? I only picked up 12 with my headers also but it revved much faster and the throttle was more responsive so the HP numbers don't tell the whole story.

Where is the rust? If it is where the coating is that's not good, if it's just dripping from the hidden areas where the coating doesn't reach so well, that's not too bad.

Kevin,
Don't forget that you have 4.10s. If the goal is to install a H&C pkg. while keeping the 4.10s, you might be in fact, happier with a setup that makes more power up high in the HP range, rather than having gobs of low-end torque. The 4.10s in the stock 10-bolts tend to be pretty fragile with a H&C/headers setup [Frown] The 4.10s can offset a lower torque rating somewhat. Another thing that can be done on the dyno tuning is to turn off the torque management program in out cars. This actually backs the power off during hard upshifts to prevent shock to the drivetrain. Although the A4s tend to benefit more in terms of the SOTP buttmeter when this is done, therewas a noticeable difference when this program was "played with" in my 6MN - much snappier shifts! I got a little bit of a surprise when I broke the rear tires loose on a 5500 rpm 3-4 upshift!
Have fun!

Best regardSS,

Elie

The rust is actually covering small areas of the bottom of the headers, they are definitely beginning to rust.

The total was 336.3 rwhp and 344.1 rwtq. I already had the 4.10's on previous dyno's.

I have an appointment booked for mine. Will
post the results. (June 30, in Detroit)

Now, I have to check my headers. My complaint
now is that it's really loud! I'll do the rust
check today and see.

Ellie, Tourque Management program is a good
point. I didn't know it was a field that could
be changed. Can LS1 edit change it? I can't use
Diablo with my '98.

Kevin I have found that with certain exaust changes you may gain how it revs and a little HP but lose some torque especially midrange torque. the real benefit of the headers is with the right cam,bye themselfs its alot of money for the gain but they do sound good also

ARE used LS1 Edit to change the settings on my PCM.
There is a post in this thread that explains very well what the TM program does:
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173743&highlight=torque+management
Here are another couple of threads that are interesting reading:
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180959&highlight=torque+management
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175308&highlight=torque+management
There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of discussion about this with respect to manual trannies. I can double check with ARE next week if you like... let me know.

Best regardSS,

Elie

Thanks for the links. But as you mentioned
not much info for the 6 speeds. I could see
the importants for autos, but I did not think
it was applicable to manuals at all. Are you
sure yours made a difference or was it just
the right conditions that day. Although, I
have had times when power shifting didn't
seem to work. Maybe I was quicker than the
PCM thought I should be!

That's the question of the day, Brian. One of those links made reference to doing it with a 6MN and seeing the rear end getting all squirrely... I dunno... the dude who took the TM out of my car was the same guy who put the heater next to the dyno sensor to give me a (totally bogus)reading of 395 RWHP! [Confused] However, the bottom line is that I NEVER broke the tires loose on a 3-4 shift and there is definitely a difference. Now you've got me thinkin' - I'm gonna check into this a bit further and call ARE tomorrow and speak to Pete. At at this point I know I'm gonna get a straight answer!
Thanks! I'll keep you posted 'cuz I know you're going in next week!~

Best regardSS,

Elie
