We have decided to switch to vBulletin after all this time using UBB. vBulletin is faster due to it being stored in Databsae via PHP and MySQL.

It appears it could be quite difficult to convert the board (as they make some migration scripts) to move all messages, users and message counts to the new system.

If we were to start from scratch as sort of a one last new start, would you all be opposed to it. The features of vBulletin are great, and I think everyone will adapt to it (for those that have never used one before).

To attempt to convert the board, could take 8-9 hours for all the messages to convert (about 100,000) plus all member data and post data.

The other option is to just start a new board, and move forward. We could leave the old forum open via a different link, you just wouldn't be able to post new messages in it.. just search and read the old archives.

Please send your opinions.

I see no reason not to start over, unless you are concerned with post counts and stuff (which I am obviously not).

It's your decision - this is not a democracy!

I would think the only thing that you may
want to secure is the log in names, or I
may take "JeffY"! j/k.

Dang, and I finally shifted into 3rd gear [Razz] Seriously, though...I'd be fine with moving forward to a new board and leaving this one as an archive. However, it would be nice if you could migrate all the member settings.

Everyone thinks it is my decision. Every member here makes the community. Many people check this board every day, and while I agree that a few changes won't ruin anyone's life.. I still feel its all the members together that make this place so great!

With this much response, I will go ahead and proceed with the new forum, and we will put this forum as an archived place that doesn't accept new posts. More coming soon!

Clean slate is fine JR.

You can start it up and let a few of us hack at it first to test it out.

I like the idea of archiving the old board if possible. There is a wealth of info that has been posted over the years.

Well, I'm probably in the minority on this, but....

Some of the old threads on this board have valuable information. Every now and then I find myself searching here to review something I read 6 months or 2 years ago. If the conversion process is automatic, and can be started and run without constant supervision, then I'd say take that step. However, if it's something that will require you to constantly monitor it over it's entire runtime, then perhaps setting up an old board as an archive is a better alternative.

I vote to save the old board info as an archive, and start a new board. Can we transfer our personal stuff though, or do we have to all start over again? I dont wanna be in first gear again, I just got moving!!!!

Do what you feel like you need to JR. Glad to help out with opinions for you though.

As long as the SSOA still has a Back Porch to hang out on, we're always up for something new and improved.

I don't want to lose the information in some of the posts on this board, so if they can't be converted easily, archiving is fine.

That would be fine with me. I wish the SLP board would have archived theirs, even for just a month. There was a lot of good info on there, but I guess it still would have cost some money to keep it online.
