Is there any way to determine if a Camaro is a Real SS or if it just has the decals on the body ie SS only interior badging brenttallen@hotmail.comPosts: 1 | From: Canada | Registered: Jun 2003

Get the VIN # and check on the SLP site to see if it went through SLP for the SS option. HMM do not see it.. E-mail Teri (HTWLSS) and ask her see can point yopu in the rifht direction.
Found this: Since there is no Build Number Forum anymore, I would call SLP Engineering. However, if you look on the drivers side sticker there should be a RPO "WU8" as one of the codes listed. This is the SS option code but will not give you a list of any installed SLP options.
Look for WU8 !! Good luck

Yes, what alfred said. Look in the LH door sticker for code WU8. It MUST be there in order to be an SS. Also, look for the code Y2Y, that means it was possible to have SLP contect (but doesnt necessarily have any). Then, look in the RH door sticker for any Y2Y content. Good luck! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt there a bunch of SLP decals in the doorjamb and underhood too? I know mine has SLP labeling in BOTH doorjambs, and on the radiator support under the hood.

'cept for mine and a few more early ones. I don't have Y2Y but it is certified as an SS. SLP would accept cars sent back from the dealer originally ordered as plain Z28s and convert them to SSs. I think that stopped in 99 as they started to grow the numbers.

O.k. According to paperwork we have from SLP dated July 15, 1996, the option code R7T (SS Package) & QLC (Tires) specifies the SS package on the 1997 model SS. 1996 had this code as well.
Also, '96 & '97 SS's couldn't be ordered w/ASR.
1998 and newer SHOULD have the WU8 code.

Interesting? Besides the QLC and WU8 codes I also have the R7A & R7T codes which are supposed to be SLP sales items numbers 26 & 44. And as would be expected I do not have the Y2Y code or ARS.
