How many people leave their top down when they park in public? Like when they go to the mall or anything else.

I live in the Bay Area too, and I never leave it down unless its within my eyesight, or if im gone for 2-3 minutes max! It looks a little more discreet with the top up, and less likely to draw attention to would be thieves/vandals.The mall? forget it way too many people to risk someone trying to lift my stereo. by the way, my personalized plates are on the way. Heres what they will say (PRNOYD) Get it? PARANOID! Where in the Bay area are ya? what color is your Z?

I understand what you mean. I'm too scared to leave it down for a long period of time. I have a 98 sebring silver z w/ black top, from Santa Clara.

I leave mine down when it's parked at work (surveilance cameras) or when shopping ONLY if I'll be back in a few mins. I NEVER leave anything valuable in view (stock head unit doesn't attact too many theives), and put on a CLUB as an extra deterrent. I figure the fewer times I put the top up-and-down, the longer it (and the motor / pumps / mechanism) will last.

I leave mine down a lot when I just run in somewhere for a few minutes. I also don't go out of my way to hide things. My car is never really full of junk, it rarely has anything more than sunglasses and some CDs in it. I guess I am pretty trusting of other people but I have yet to have a problem, knock on wood.

Mine stays down unless it looks like it'll rain (or snow) while I'm gone. I like to keep the tonneau covers on .. doesn't look right without 'em.I close the windows, fold the seats forward (sun and birdie protection) and lock the doors.
If someone hops in the alarm should get 'em pretty quick. I don't leave anything of value visible or in the gloveboxes.

I don't leave mine parked with the top down unless I am at a car show. And I try not to take it to the mall!

Theres somthing very conspicuous about a flashy car with the top down. I suppose alot of people who leave theres down all the time are very trusting/and live in low crime rate areas, and some only drop the top when their behind the wheel. I personally think the overall look of the car is much, much, sleeker and sexy with the top down. Its 100% of the reason i wanted a convertible. Top down and Brite rally red paint= drop top beautiful!

It probably depends a lot on where you live. I leave the top down all the time on my car. I haven't had any problems yet in the year that I've owned it. I kind of think of it this way... If someone wants something that's inside of it, they might cut my top and take it anyway. So, I'd just as soon have them reach in and take a CD or sunglasses and leave the top alone...

I USED to leave mine down all the time (except when in downtown seattle) but a week before my accident, I left the top down and the next morning; someone took all the papers out of the center console and took all my change out of the change holder.
Since then I started putting the top up in my own freaking driveway.
Of course at the grocery store and malls it stays down- but I have a handicap permit so what I do is put it on the dashborad in the very front of the window and put the windows up.

i leave the top down when i am making quick trips into the store, in the year i have owned the car i haven't put on the tonneau cover once. living in florida you never know when its going to rain so i will put the top up when i am going to be gone longer than 30 minutes. however they can just cut the top if they want something in the car. i had a friend who had a mustang gt and even though he left the door unlocked, they still cut the top.
Yeah, what Doug said. Take ANYTHING, but don't cut my top!!
Exactly! Someone cut the top and took the radio and amps. I'd be nicer if they just take the stuff and leave the top alone. I couldn't drive the car for a while because of rain.
Alright, back to the subject. I only leave the top down when I park at my apartment complex or wherever I can see the car.

Unless I am going in and out within a minute or two, the top goes up. I had the top on my '96 Formula cut..nothing stolen. I think some people will cut your top whether you leave the doors open or not, whether they want anything or not...some people are just a-holes. I've grown less trusting, and if I won't be in visual range of my car for more than 2 or 3 minutes, I put the top up!

All depends where the car is parked and how long she will be out of my eye sight. Any longer than 3-5 then the top goes up. I am more concerned with vandals tossing stuff inside the car and making a mess than with thievs as I never leave anything of real value in the car.
