... and yes ... that's snow falling on the windshield.
The royal "we" .... Marion .... sewed this one up ... it's a very tight fabric ... I think they call it parachute fabric ... with a layer of quilt matting in between ... we support it with a 1/2" wood dowel through the top that is hooked onto the seat belt guides with elastic (like the stuff on underwear ) ... the bottom gets tucked between the back seat bottom and folded down seat back. We've found it to be very effective ... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. and to pre-empt the possible question ... no ... Marion will not make another.

poSSum's solution blocks the back flow of cold air between the seats. The Windstop actually covers the entire back seat acomplishing the same thing. The picture on the website is lousy, but the product is pretty good. The vertical portion folds down backwards. The material is a fine mesh that you can see through so it doesn't block the view from your rearview mirror. It pops in and out quickly, stores in the trunk if you want to use the back seats.
The wife and I roll up the windows and turn on the heater full blast. Very comfortable at any speed. Looks good, too. Everyone comes over and asks about it.

Works great ... we keep the roof down on the highway after sunset into the low 40's ... around town we can't keep the heat on full even with temperatures pushing towards zero.
The fabric was from a local fabric store.
I do like the look of the one Bert posted ... probably wouldn't even need a hat with it ... and still have access through the middle to the back seat area .... great while travelling.

im thinking of making mine almost the exact same, and im sure i can do it for much less than 220 bucks, having access to a machine shop and all...
how does it attach to the car? is the mesh just like screening id be able to get at home depot? and what is the diameter of the tubing roughly? bout 5/8"?

and when you said the windstop covers the entire back seat, did you mean it extends from above the top of the headrests all the way to the floor? if so, how is it still stowable in the trunk? hmm, also, if at all possible, would you mind giving me some dimensions?

No. The windstop has two pieces, one vertical and the other is horizontal with a limited range hinge joining them. The vertical part is obvious in the picture from the website. The horizontal part extends from the bottom of the headrests to the top of the back seats. This part has four mounting points, two of which connect to special hardware installed near the top of the seat belt gadget right behind your head. The other two mounting points cleverly hook onto the seat belt loops on the top of the rear seats.
The limited range hinge allows the vertical portion to move approximately 90 degrees. Normally, the vertical portion is "vertical". Duh! But you can fold it down backwards so that it lays on the horizontal part. I never actually use it that way, but this does allow it to fold flat for storage.
Hard to describe adequately, but the horizontal part is like a shelf over the entire back seat. When the Windstop is removed, all of the mounting points are invisible.

The attachments are very special. I try to get them in the pictures.
The mesh appears to be something special. Not quite like regular screen door material. It's kinda like vinyl coated screen but not really woven. I've never seen anything like it.
The tubing is approximately 5/8". I measure it when I get home.

Sounds like that Windstop thingy would do pretty much the same thing as a speedster-tonneau cover (keep air flowing over the rear seats rather than come back between the front seats).
Might be a little cheaper than a tonneau, but doesn't look as cool.

Exact-a-mundo, Johnny. Windstop is sort of a poor mans tonneau with some additional protection for the back of your head. My plan is to eventually dump the Windstop for a nice tonneau cover and a custom roll bar with some sort of built-in windscreen.
Do you like your DG tonneau? Does it fit in the trunk when you need to use the back seat?
